A ligand and base-free copper catalyzed synthetic method for the efficient ?-arylation of aromatic ketones is described. In order to avoid strong bases, ketone-derived silyl enol ethers were employed. Their reaction with diaryliodonium salts as aryl source provided intermolecular C–C coupling displaying good functional group tolerance requiring low catalyst loading.

A series of Ru(II) (η(6)-arene) complexes with 1,2,3-triazolylidene ligands comprising different aryl and alkyl wingtip groups have been prepared and characterized by NMR spectroscopy, microanalysis, and in one case by X-ray diffraction. All complexes are active catalyst precursors for the oxidation of alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes/ketones without the need of an oxidant or base as add...

Herein, we report a silver-free Pd(II)-catalyzed C(sp3)-H arylation of saturated bicyclic and tricyclic amine scaffolds. The reaction provides good yields using a range of aryl iodides and aryl bromides including functionalized examples bearing aldehydes, ketones, esters, free phenols, and heterocycles. The methodology has been applied to medicinally relevant scaffolds. Two of the intermediate ...

The rhodium-catalyzed methylation of ketones has been accomplished using methanol as the methylating agent and the hydrogen-borrowing method. The sequence is notable for the relatively low temperatures that are required and for the ability of the reaction system to form α-branched products with ease. Doubly alkylated ketones can be prepared from methyl ketones and two different alcohols by usin...

Gold(I)-chloride-catalyzed synthesis of α-sulfenylated carbonyl compounds from propargylic alcohols and aryl thiols showed a wide substrate scope with respect to both propargylic alcohols and aryl thiols. Primary and secondary aromatic propargylic alcohols generated α-sulfenylated aldehydes and ketones in 60-97% yield. Secondary aliphatic propargylic alcohols generated α-sulfenylated ketones in...

Trans- and cis-2-aryl-3-(2-cyanoethyl)aziridines, prepared via alkylation of the corresponding 2-aryl-3-(tosyloxymethyl)aziridines with the sodium salt of trimethylsilylacetonitrile, were transformed into variable mixtures of 4-[aryl(alkylamino)methyl]butyrolactones and 5-[aryl(hydroxy)methyl]pyrrolidin-2-ones via KOH-mediated hydrolysis of the cyano group, followed by ring expansion. In additi...

Two efficient protocols for the palladium-catalyzed synthesis of aryl-2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ols from aryl bromides in the absence of copper were developed. A simple catalytic system consisting of Pd(OAc)2 and P(p-tol)3 using DBU as the base and THF as the solvent was found to be highly effective for the coupling reaction of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol (4) with a wide range of aryl bromides in good to ex...

Herein, we report a ruthenium‐catalyzed ketone directed ortho‐arylation wherein the addition of bidentate NC‐type ligand, most effectively 2‐(o‐tolyl) pyridine, significantly enhances C‐H arylation reaction. Various aryl‐alkyl ketones, including cyclic, aliphatic, and heterocyclic ones, are competent substrates, arylboronic acid esters were used as aryl sources. However, substitution with OMe C...

conformational properties of n-aryl-1-azacyclooctan-5- ones with a p-methyl, m-methyl, and p-methoxy group as a substituent have been studied by 1h-nmr, 13c-nmr and ir spectroscopies. transannular interaction of the two functional groups have been examined from the ring inversion barriers and the carbonyl vibrational frequencies with reference to the corresponding data of the respective monofun...
