Layered titanate H2Ti3O7 nanotubes were synthesized and firstly used as a supercapacitor electrode in a non-aqueous electrolyte. They exhibited the specific capacitances as high as 414 and 306 F g(-1) at 0.5 and 10 A g(-1), respectively, and 82% of the specific capacitance at the 10th cycle can be retained after 1000 cycles.

The first redox flow battery (RFB), based on the all-copper liquid metal salt [Cu(MeCN)4][Tf2N], is presented. Liquid metal salts (LMS) are a new type of ionic liquid that functions both as solvent and electrolyte. Non-aqueous electrolytes have advantages over water-based solutions, such as a larger electrochemical window and large thermal stability. The proof-of-concept is given that LMSs can ...

The object of this work is solubility correlation and prediction of CO2 and H2S in various aqueous alkanolamines using the electrolyte cubic square-well equation of state (eCSW EoS) (Haghtalab, A.,Mazloumi, S. H., (2010), Electrolyte Cubic Square-Well Equation of State for Computation of the Solubility CO2 and H2S in Aqueous MDEA Solutions,  Ind. Eng. Chem. Res.,49,6221-623). The eEoS systemati...

A self-consistent microscopic theory is developed to understand the anomalously weak concentration dependence of ionic self-diffusion coefficient D(ion) in electrolyte solutions. The self-consistent equations are solved by using the mean spherical approximation expressions of the static pair correlation functions for unequal sizes. The results are in excellent agreement both with the known expe...

Neutron diffraction with isotopic substitution (NDIS) experiments and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been used to characterize the structure of aqueous guanidinium carbonate (Gdm2CO3) solutions. The MD simulations found very strong hetero-ion pairing in Gdm2CO3 solution and were used to determine the best structural experiment to demonstrate this ion pairing. The NDIS experiments conf...

The surface tensions of binary salt mixtures made up from NaCl and MgCl2 in aqueous solution were measured as a function of concentration and temperature. By analyzing the results, the thermodynamic quantities of surface formation such as entropy (Deltas), Helmholtz free energy (Deltaf), and energy of surface formation (Deltau) were evaluated. The Deltaf of the mixtures positively deviates from...

A theoretical and experimental study of cation exchange in high ionic strength electrolytes was performed using pristine subsurface sediments from the U.S. Department of Energy Hanford site. These sediments are representative of the site contaminated sediments impacted by release of high level waste (HLW) solutions containing 137Cs+ in NaNO3 brine. The binary exchange behavior of Cs+-Na+, Cs+-K...

The dynamic properties of water molecules coordinated to simple ions (alkali and alkali-earth halides) and hydrophobic ions (tetraalkylammonium (TAA) halides) in supercooled solutions have been investigated with KMR. The study of spin-lattice relaxation rates and self-diffusion coefficients as functions of temperature, pressure, Larmor frequency and concentration reveals characteristic features...

Aqueous lithium energy storage systems address environmental sustainability and safety issues. However, significant capacity fading after repeated cycles of charge-discharge and during float charge limit their practical application compared to their nonaqueous counterparts. We introduce an artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) to the aqueous systems and report the use of graphene films ...

Solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) is the key component that enables all advanced electrochemical devices, the best representative of which is Li-ion battery (LIB). It kinetically stabilizes electrolytes at potentials far beyond their thermodynamic stability limits, so that cell reactions could proceed reversibly. Its ad hoc chemistry and formation mechanism has been a topic under intensive inv...
