The HIV-1 envelope protein harbors several conserved epitopes that are recognized by broadly neutralizing antibodies. One of these neutralizing sites, the MPER region of gp41, is targeted by one of the most potent and broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibody, 2F5. Different vaccination strategies and a lot of efforts have been undertaken to induce MPER neutralizing antibodies but little success...
Evidence has shown that liver disease caused by hepatitis viruses can be more aggressive and severe in HIV infected subjects. Therefore, the present cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the seroprevalence of HDV infection among HIV/HBV co-infected clients in Shiraz, southwest Iran. In this study, 178 patients co-infected with HBV and HIV individuals were enrolled. The diagnosis of HIV infect...
From 1992 to 1995 we studied 232 (69% male, 87% Caucasian) anti-human immunodeficiency virus (anti-HIV) positive Brazilian patients, through a questionnaire; HIV had been acquired sexually by 50%, from blood by 32%, sexually and/or from blood by 16.4% and by an unknown route by 1.7%. Intravenous drug use was reported by 29%; it was the most important risk factor for HIV transmission. The alanin...
Methamphetamine Inhibits HIV-1 Replication in CD4+ T Cells by Modulating Anti–HIV-1 miRNA Expression
Background and purpose: Normal amount of saliva is necessary for prevention of oral lesions, caries, and proper speech. The purpose of this research was to study the salivary flow rate in HIV-1 seropositive attending Tehran Imam Khomeini Hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 50 individuals including 25 HIV-1 seropositive patients (case group) and 25 healthy ...
background and objectives: human t-cell lymphotropic viruses (htlv) type 1 and 2 are retroviruses that share the same routes of transmission as human immunodeficiency virus (hiv). as a consequence of epidemiologic similarities, hiv and htlv-1/2 co-infection is frequent. due to the limited data, this study assessed the seroprevalence of htlv-1/2 infections in hiv infected patients in tehran, ira...
TAK-220 is a CCR5 antagonist, part of the new class of anti-human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (anti-HIV-1) entry inhibitors. We evaluated the anti-HIV-1 interactions between TAK-220 and various antiretrovirals in vitro. Synergy was observed with all drugs at the 90 and 95% inhibitory concentrations. The favorable drug interactions observed suggest that further clinical evaluation is warranted.
Infection of adherent primary monocytes with HIV-lBa.L is significantly suppressed in the presence of human saliva. By reverse transcriptase (RT) levels, saliva, although present for only 1 h during monocyte viral exposure, inhibited HIV1 infectivity for 3 wk after infection, whereas human plasma and synovial fluid failed to inhibit HIV-1 infectivity. Antiviral activity was identified in the sa...
