Currently, antimicrobial resistance is one of the most prominent public health issues. In fact, there is increasing evidence that animals constitute a reservoir of antimicrobial resistance. In collaboration with the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of intestinal carriage of multi-drug-resistant Gram-negative Bacilli in poultry farms at the ...
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE The emergence of multiple drug resistance in Enterobacteriaceae is of particular concern. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial susceptibility and screen for the ampC gene in three members of the Enterobacteriaceae family (Enterobacter cloacae, Citrobacter freundii, and Serratia marcescens) found at Taichung Veterans General Hospital during the past 5 years ...
Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) are enzymes produced in some gram-negative bacilli that mediate resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins and aztreonam. They are most common in Klebsiella spp. and Escherichia coli but are present in a variety of Enterobacteriaceae. Resistance mediated by these enzymes can be difficult to detect depending on the antimicrobial agents tested. AmpC b...
The prevalence and impact of the overexpression of AmpC and efflux pumps were evaluated with a collection of 190 Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates recovered from bloodstream infections in a 2008 multicenter study (10 hospitals) in Spain. The MICs of a panel of 13 antipseudomonal agents were determined by microdilution, and the expressions of ampC, mexB, mexY, mexD, and mexF were determined by rea...
BACKGROUND Cefotaxime plays an important role in the treatment of patients with bacteremia due to Enterobacteriaceae, although cefotaxime resistance is reported to be increasing in association with extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and AmpC β-lactamase (AmpC). METHODS We conducted a case-control study in a Japanese university hospital between 2011 and 2012. We assessed the risk factors and...
We propose an efficient information theoretic secure asynchronous multiparty computation (AMPC)protocol with optimal fault tolerance; i.e., with n = 3t + 1, where n is the total number of parties andt is the number of parties that can be under the influence of a Byzantine (active) adversaryAt havingunbounded computing power. Our protocol communicates O(n5κ) bits per multiplicati...
Changes of mycophenolic acid (MPA) pharmacokinetics with aging were investigated in rats. We also compared the effect of concomitant amoxicillin/clavulanate combination (CVA/AMPC) on the pharmacokinetics of MPA in 4-week-old and 12-week-old rats (the package insert of CVA/AMPC warns of possible interaction with MPA). Four-week-old rats showed a 1.4-fold higher total body clearance of MPA and a ...
AmpC regulatory genes in 21 ceftazidime-resistant clinical isolates of Enterobacter cloacae (MICs of > or = 16 microg/ml) were characterized. All isolates exhibited AmpC overproduction due to AmpD mutation. Additionally, we found two AmpR mutants among the isolates. This is the first report of chromosomal ampR mutation in clinical isolates of E. cloacae.
A presumptive chromosomal cephalosporinase (pI, 9.0) from a clinical strain of Acinetobacter genomic species 3 (AG3) is reported. The nucleotide sequence of this beta-lactamase shows for the first time the gene encoding an AmpC enzyme in AG3. In addition, the biochemical properties of the novel AG3 AmpC beta-lactamase are reported
Introduction: Proteus mirabilis is an important pathogen isolated from both community-acquired and health-care associated infections. Acquired AmpC-type beta-lactamases represent an important mechanism of resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins and are emerging in several European countries. The objective of this work was to know the prevalence of acquired AmpC beta-lactamase producing P...
