To investigate the role of Ser162 in phosphorylation-dependent regulation of maize sucrose-phosphate synthase (SPS) activities in rice, transgenic rice plants expressing wild-type or mutagenized maize SPS were produced. Our results indicate that Ser162 was responsible for overproduction-induced inactivation of SPS protein and for light/ dark modulation of this protein in vivo.

Breast cancer accounts for 22.9% of all types of cancer in females worldwide. Safflower polysaccharide (SPS) is an active fraction purified from safflower petals (Carthamus tinctorius L). The present study investigated the effects of safflower polysaccharide on the proliferation and metastasis of breast cancer cells. Cell viability was analyzed using an MTT assay following treatment of the MCF‑...

Abstract Introduction: Nurses' compliance with standard precautions is a viable tool for decreasing health hazards in health centers. Objective: This study aimed to identify factors affecting compliance with standard precautions (SPs) of infection control based on the health belief model (HBM) among emergency department nurses employed in the educational-therapeutic centers affiliated with G...

The transformation of the strain DH5α (TM)-T1(R) with plasmid vector pET11a containing the cloned gene of bacterial selenophosphate synthetase (SPS), selD, from the E. coli BL21-Gold (DE3) strain gives an overproducing strain of SPS with one synonymic substitution, E197D. The transformation efficiency was estimated as 8 × 10(8) CFU/ μ g plasmid DNA. 28 mg of highly purified preparation of recom...

Experiments were conducted with vegetative soybean plants (Glycine max [L.] Merr., ;Ransom') to determine whether the activities in leaf extracts of key enzymes in sucrose metabolism changed during the daily light/dark cycle. The activity of sucrose-phosphate synthase (SPS) exhibited a distinct diurnal rhythm, whereas the activities of UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase, cytoplasmic fructose-1,6-bis...

Post‑traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a stress‑accociated mental disorder that occurs as a result of exposure to a traumatic event, with characteristic symptoms, including intrusive memories, hyperarousal and avoidance. The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is known to be significantly involved in emotional adjustment, particularly introspection, inhibition of the amygdala and emotional memory...

Production of urine is initiated by fluid and solute flux across the glomerular filtration barrier. Recent ultrastructural studies have shown that under extreme conditions of no filtration, or very high filtration, a restriction to flow is predicted in a space underneath the podocyte cell body or its processes, the subpodocyte space (SPS). The SPS covered up to two-thirds of the glomerular filt...

STUDY DESIGN As-treated analysis of the Spine Patient Outcomes Research Trial. OBJECTIVE To compare baseline characteristics and surgical and nonoperative outcomes between degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS) and spinal stenosis (SPS) patients. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA DS and SPS patients are often combined in clinical studies despite differences in underlying pathology and treatment. ME...

Sodium polyanethole sulfonate (SPS; trade name, Liquoid) is a constituent in culture media used to grow bacteria from blood samples from patients suspected of bacteremia. SPS prevents the killing of bacteria by innate cellular and humoral factors. We analyzed the effect of SPS on the three complement activation pathways: the classical, alternative, and lectin pathways, respectively. Inhibition ...
