Polymyxin acts as an ultimate line of refuge against the severe infections by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens. This conventional idea is challenged dramatically by the recent discovery of mobile colistin resistance gene (mcr-1) is prevalent in food animals and human beings worldwide. More importantly, the mcr-1 gene was found to be co-localized with other antibiotic resistance genes...

Bacteriophages that are routinely used in cDNA libraries do not require any biological selection for forming plaques. Thus parental non-recombinant phages are always found in variable proportions together with recombinant ones in all cDNA libraries. The presence of non-recombinants in significant proportions dilutes the abundance of rare cDNA species and makes library screening difficult. If th...

Background: Infections caused by carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria are treated with colonistin as a last resort. However, the increased resistance in recent years is significant for treating multiple drug-resistant infections. Objectives: This study aimed to determine genes mobile colistin (mcr)-1 and mcr-2 colistin-resistant isolates, understand mechanism, help treatment. Methods: Is...

Colistin use has mostly been stopped in human medicine, due to its toxicity. However, nowadays, it still is used as a last-resort antibiotic treat hospital infections caused by multi-drug resistant Enterobacteriaceae. On the contrary, colistin veterinary medicine until recently. In this study, 210 fecal samples from pigs (n = 57), calves 152), and farmer 1) were collected farm where E. coli har...

This study was designed to investigate the molecular epidemiology of mobile colistin resistance ( mcr ) using a “One-Health” approach in Laos and predict whether any dominant plasmid backbone and/or strain type influences dissemination . We collected 673 samples from humans (rectal normal flora), poultry, environment (water, flies, birds, etc.) Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos)...

We present here the draft genome sequences of two colistin-resistant mcr-1-carrying Escherichia coli strains belonging to sequence type 74 (ST74) and ST1850, isolated from commercial chicken meat in Brazil. Assembly of this draft genome resulted in 5,022,083 and 4,950,681 bp, respectively, revealing the presence of the IncX4 plasmid-mediated mcr-1 gene responsible for resistance to colistin.

Although coexistence of blaNDM-5 and mcr-1 in Escherichia coli has been reported, little is known about the fitness and virulence of such strains. Three carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli (GZ1, GZ2, and GZ3) successively isolated from one patient in 2015 were investigated for microbiological fitness and virulence. GZ1 and GZ2 were also resistant to colistin. To verify the association between...

The melanocortin (MC) peptides are produced centrally by propiomelanocortin (POMC) neurons within the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus and act through five seven-transmembrane G-protein coupled melanocortin receptor (MCR) subtypes. The MC3R and MC4R subtypes, the most abundant central MCRs, are widely expressed in brain regions known to modulate neurobiological responses to ethanol, includin...

Rapid detoxification of atrazine in naturally tolerant crops such as maize (Zea mays) and grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) results from glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity. In previous research, two atrazine-resistant waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus) populations from Illinois, U.S.A. (designated ACR and MCR), displayed rapid formation of atrazine-glutathione (GSH) conjugates, implicating...

Many problems can be formulated as maximum clique problems. Hence, it is highly important to develop algorithms that can find a maximum clique very fast in practice. We propose new approximate coloring and other related techniques which markedly improve the run time of the branch-and-bound algorithm MCR (J. Global Optim., 37, pp.95–111, 2007), previously shown to be the fastest maximum-clique-f...
