Nisin (50 microg/ml), EDTA (0.02 M, disodium salt), sodium lactate (NaL, 2%), and potassium sorbate (KS, 0.02%) were tested individually and in various combinations as sanitizer treatments for reducing Salmonella on whole and fresh-cut cantaloupe. Whole cantaloupe and fresh-cut pieces were inoculated with a five-strain cocktail of Salmonella to give 4.76 +/- 0.23 log CFU/cm2 and 3.42 +/- 0.13 l...

We present a measurement of the branching ratio BR(K → π±e∓ν̄(ν)) performed using the KLOE detector. KS-mesons are produced in the reaction e +e− → φ → KSKL at the DAΦNE collider. In a sample of ∼5 × 10 6 KS-tagged events we find 624± 30 semileptonic KS decays. Normalizing to the KS→π +π− count in the same data sample, we obtain BR(KS → πeν)= (6.91 ± 0.37) × 10 −4, in agreement with the Standard...

Klinefelter syndrome (KS) (47,XXY) is the most common male sex chromosome aneuploidy. Diagnosis and clinical supervision remain a challenge due to varying phenotypic presentation and insufficient characterization of the syndrome. Here we combine health data-driven epidemiology and molecular level systems biology to improve the understanding of KS and the molecular interplay influencing its como...

AIM to investigate the association between vitamin D receptor polymorphisms and circulating 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D) levels with keloid scar (KS) risk. METHODS A total of 261 patients with KS and 261 normal healthy individuals were enrolled. VDR gene polymorphisms were determined. Circulating 1,25(OH)2D levels were detected. RESULTS In this study, we investigated the role of fou...

OBJECTIVE To contrast the behavioral and social phenotypes including a screen for autistic behaviors in boys with 47,XYY syndrome (XYY) or 47,XXY Klinefelter syndrome (KS) and controls and investigate the effect of prenatal diagnosis on the phenotype. METHODS Patients included 26 boys with 47,XYY, 82 boys with KS, and 50 control boys (ages 4-15 years). Participants and parents completed a phy...

Chondroitin sulfate (CS) proteoglycans are strong inhibitors of structural rearrangement after injuries of the adult CNS. In addition to CS chains, keratan sulfate (KS) chains are also covalently attached to some proteoglycans. CS and KS sometimes share the same core protein, but exist as independent sugar chains. However, the biological significance of KS remains elusive. Here, we addressed th...

Although CD40 is expressed by several tumor lines and is up-regulated in tumor vascular endothelium, its role in tumor biology is still unclear. In the present study, we investigated the role of CD40 in the growth and vascularization of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). In vitro, stimulation of CD40 induced migration of KS cells and inhibited vincristine-induced apoptosis. Similarly, the CD40 engagement o...

kindler syndrome (ks) is a rare, autosomal recessive genodermatosis characterized by skin blistering and photosensitivity in infancy, progressive poikiloderma, and diffuse cutaneous atrophy. it affects the skin, mucous membranes, and oral cavity and is caused by mutations in the kind1 gene on 20p12.3. the first case of ks associated with periodontitis was reported in 1996, and have been infrequ...

BACKGROUND Kawasaki syndrome (KS) causes significant morbidity among children in the United States and other countries and can result in a range of cardiac and noncardiac complications. METHODS To describe the occurrence of KS in the United States and risk factors for the development of coronary artery abnormalities (CAA), national KS surveillance data were analyzed for patients with KS onset...

OBJECTIVE There have been a large number of reports on alterations in the serum level of keratan sulphate (KS), a potential marker of articular cartilage degeneration in patients with arthropathy. Such studies have commonly employed ELISA using the anti-KS monoclonal antibody 1/20/5D4 (5D4-ELISA) to determine KS levels. Recently, a highly sensitive KS ELISA (HS-ELISA) kit has been developed, al...
