Portfolio optimization involves the optimal assignment of limited capital to different available financial assets to achieve a reasonable trade-off between profit and risk objectives. In this paper, we studied the extended Markowitz’s meanvariance portfolio optimization model. We considered the cardinality, quantity, pre-assignment and round lot constraints in the extended model. These four rea...

Dynamic traffic management (DTM) is acknowledged in various policy documents as an important instrument to improve network performance. This network performance is not only a matter of accessibility, since the externalities of traffic are becoming more and more important objectives as well. Optimization of network performance using DTM measures is a specific example of a network design problem ...

Most of the research in multi-objective scheduling optimization uses the classical weighted arithmetic mean operator to aggregate the various optimization criteria. However, there are scheduling problems where criteria are considered interact and thus a different operator should be adopted. This paper is devoted to the search of Pareto-optimal solutions in a tri-criterion flow-shop scheduling p...

The convergence and the diversity are two main goals of an evolutionary algorithm for many-objective optimization problems. However, achieving these two goals simultaneously is the difficult and challenging work for multi-objective evolutionary algorithms. A uniform evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition and the control of dominance area of solutions (CDAS) is proposed to achieve these t...

A novel adaptive local search method is developed for hybrid evolutionary multiobjective algorithms (EMOA) to improve convergence to the Pareto front in multiobjective optimization. The concepts of local and global effectiveness of a local search operator are suggested for dynamic adjustment of adaptation parameters. Local effectiveness is measured by quantitative comparison of improvements in ...

Due to the deregulation of the Electric Supply Industry and the resulting emergence of electricity market, the volumes of power purchases are on the rise all over the world. In a bid to meet the customer’s demand in a reliable and yet economic manner, utilities purchase power from the energy market over and above its own production. This paper aims at developing an optimal power purchase model ...

This paper revisits the classical Polynomial Mutation (PLM) operator and proposes a new probe guided version of the PLM operator designed to be used in conjunction with Multiobjective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs). The proposed Probe Guided Mutation (PGM) operator is validated by using data sets from six different stock markets. The performance of the proposed PGM operator is assessed in comp...

The Capacitated Arc Routing Problem (CARP) is a challenging combinatorial optimization problem with many real-world applications, e.g., salting route optimization and fleet management. There have been many attempts at solving CARP using heuristic and meta-heuristic approaches, including evolutionary algorithms. However, almost all such attempts formulate CARP as a single-objective problem altho...

In this article, the multi-objective optimization of cylindrical aluminum tubes under axial impact load is presented. The absorbed energy and the specific absorbed energy (SEA) are considered as objective functions while the maximum crush load should not exceed allowable limit. The geometric dimensions of tubes including diameter, length and thickness are chosen as design variables. The Non-domi...
