We analyse the CP violation in supersymmetric models with Hermitian Yukawa and trilinear couplings. We show that Hermitian Yukawa matrices can be implemented in supersymmetric models with SU(3) flavor symmetry. An important feature of this class of models is that the supersymmetric contributions to the EDM of the neutron and mercury atom are suppressed. In this framework, εK can be saturated by...
I shortly review the present status of the theoretical calculations of ε/ε and the comparison with the present experimental results. I discuss the role of higher order chiral corrections and in general of non-factorizable contributions for the explanation of the ∆I = 1/2 selection rule and direct CP violation in kaon decays. Still lacking satisfactory lattice calculations, analytic methods and ...
We consider a distributionally robust optimization problem where the ambiguity set of probability distributions is characterized by a tractable conic representable support set and expectation constraints. Specifically, we propose and motivate a new class of infinitely constrained ambiguity sets in which the number of expectation constraints could potentially be infinite. We show how the infinit...
This chapter illustrates the use of algebraic flux correction in the context of finite element methods for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and related models. In the convection-dominated flow regime, nonlinear stability is enforced using algebraic flux correction. The numerical treatment of the incompressibility constraint is based on the ‘Multilevel Pressure Schur Complement’ (MPSC)...
We propose a numerical method for computing transport and diffusion on a moving surface. The approach is based on a diffuse interface model in which a bulk diffusion–advection equation is solved on a layer of thickness ε containing the surface. The conserved quantity in the bulk domain is the concentration weighted by a density which vanishes on the boundary of the thin domain. Such a density a...
A question raised by the recent subexponential algorithm for Unique Games (Arora, Barak, Steurer, FOCS 2010) is what other “hard-looking” problems admit good approximation algorithms with subexponential complexity. In this work, we give such an algorithm for d-to-1 two-prover games, a broad class of constraint satisfaction problems. Our algorithm has several consequences for Khot’s d-to-1 Conje...
We review the present theoretical status of the CP violating ratio ε/ε in the Standard Model (SM) and confront its estimates with the most recent data. In particular we review the present status of the most important parameters ms, B (1/2) 6 , B (3/2) 8 , Λ (4) MS and Ωη+η′ . While the sign and the order of magnitude of SM estimates for ε/ε agree with the data, for central values of these param...
We review the theory of ε/ε and present an updated phenomenological analysis using hadronic matrix elements from lattice QCD. The present status of the computation of ε/ε, considering various approaches to the matrix-element evaluation, is critically discussed. ⋆ based on the talks given by M.C. at “Les Rencontres de Physique de la Vallée d’Aoste”, La Thuile (Italy), 27 February–4 March 2000 an...
The long-distance contributions to K → 2π amplitudes can be pinned down, using well established Chiral Perturbation Theory techniques. The strong S–wave rescattering of the two final pions generates sizeable chiral loop corrections, which have an important impact on the direct CP violation ratio ε/ε [1,2]. Including all large logarithmic corrections, both at short and long distances, the Standa...
This paper presents a novel feature-matching based approach for rigid object tracking. The proposed method models the tracking problem as discovering the affine transforms of object images between frames according to the extracted feature correspondences. False feature matches (outliers) are automatically detected and removed with a new SVM regression technique, where outliers are iteratively i...
