A Boolean function with an even number n = 2k of variables is called bent if it is maximally nonlinear. We present here a new construction of bent functions. Boolean functions of the form f(x) = tr(α1x1 + α2x2), α1, α2, x ∈ F2n , are considered, where the exponents di (i = 1, 2) are of Niho type, i.e. the restriction of xi on F2k is linear. We prove for d1 = 2 + 1 and d2 = 3 · 2k−1 − 1, d2 = 2 ...
with a1, a2 > 0. (Indeed any rank 2 matrix can be written as RA with A as above, and R orthogonal. Hence any affine transformation can be written as h ◦ f with f as claimed and g a rigid motion.) Hence, by Caratheodory uniqueness theorem it is sufficient to show that λ2(ASu(α1, α2)) = |det(A)|λ2(Su(α1, α2)) for all u = (u1, u2) ∈ R, αi ∈ R+ (3) Su(α, β) ≡ { x = (x1, x2) ∈ R : x1 ∈ (u1, u1 + α1]...
Let B1 and B2 be disjoint separable algebraic extensions of a field F, and let B = B1B2 be their composite. Let α1 be an element of B1 and α2 be an element of B2. Suppose α1 and α2 are primitive (resp. normal, resp. subnormal). We investigate the question of when α1 +α2 and α1α2 are necessarily primitive (resp. normal, resp. subnormal) elements of B. (A normal element of a Galois extension is d...
Three distinct genes encode α1-adrenoceptors. Although homodimers of each subtype have been reported, certain but not all combinations of heterodimers of the α1-adrenoceptors appear to form. Key studies in this field are reviewed and the approaches that have been applied to monitoring the selectivity and the basis of α1-adrenoceptor dimerization are discussed. Introduction GPCRs (G-protein-coup...
BACKGROUND The immune system plays a pivotal role in myocardial homeostasis and response to injury. Interleukins-4 and -13 are anti-inflammatory type-2 cytokines, signaling via the common interleukin-13 receptor α1 chain and the type-2 interleukin-4 receptor. The role of interleukin-13 receptor α1 in the heart is unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS We analyzed myocardial samples from human donors (n...
α1-Antitrypsin is a serine protease inhibitor produced in the liver that is responsible for the regulation of pulmonary inflammation. The commonest pathogenic gene mutation yields Z-α1-antitrypsin, which has a propensity to self-associate forming polymers that become trapped in inclusions of endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It is unclear whether these inclusions are connected to the main ER network ...
Proteostasis maintenance of γ-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptors dictates their function in controlling neuronal inhibition in mammalian central nervous systems. However, as a multisubunit, multispan, integral membrane protein, even wild type subunits of GABAA receptors fold and assemble inefficiently in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Unassembled and misfolded subunits undergo ER-assoc...
