OBJECTIVE We carried out a secondary analysis in high-risk patients with a previous myocardial infarction (MI) and diabetes in the Alpha Omega Trial. We tested the hypothesis that in these patients an increased intake of the n-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and α-linolenic acid (ALA) will reduce the incidence of ventricular arrhythmias and fatal MI. RES...

Localized, high energy, direct current intracardiac shocks effectively prevented recurrent ventricular tachycardia in one patient whose arrhythmia originated in the right ventricular outflow tract, and in two patients with ventricular septal tachycardia after myocardial infarction.

Cardiac involvement infrequently occurs in hypopituitarism, and lethal cardiac arrhythmias are rarely reported. We present a middle age female who died as a consequence of refractory ventricular arrhythmia whose medical history and previous laboratory investigation were consistent with hypopituitarism. We conclude that hypopituitarism may lead to electrocardiographic changes and malignant ventr...

Although intermittent ECG sampling is a commonly used method for arrhythmia detection there are no controlled studies of its efficiency. In the present study a continuous ECG was recorded for three hours in 52 patients with ventricular tachyarrhythmias. All ECGs were interpreted minute to minute to get the true arrhythmia content. Intermittent ECG samples were simulated by analyzing the first t...

Background: Nowadays, the treatment of choice for anatomical correction of transposition of great arteries is arterial switch but some children are not good candidates for this operation. In these cases atrial switch or Senning procedure is an accepted method, thus outcome of this procedure needs to be better delineated. Methods: This prospective study included 65 patients that underwent Senni...

BACKGROUND Outflow tract ventricular tachycardia originating above the semilunar valves has been reported in a small number of studies. Discrete potentials in the great arteries (above the semilunar valves) have been rarely described in patients undergoing electrophysiology evaluation and radiofrequency ablation for ventricular arrhythmias. The mechanisms of these discrete potentials in the gre...

Isolated left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC) is a rare congenital anomaly. It is characterized by numerous prominent ventricular trabecullations and deep intertrabecular recesses. The incidences of associated cardiovascular complication and congenital heart disease are high. It is associated with congestive heart failure, ventricular arrhythmia, embolic events, and distinctive facial dysmorp...

Background: Atrial and ventricular arrhythmias are among the most common complications after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Previous studies demonstrated that cardiopulmonary bypass itself results in reduced serum magnesium levels. In this study, we evaluated the effect of total blood magnesium level (TMG) on the prevention of perioperative arrhythmias with routine regimens of 2-4...

A severe case of flecainide-induced incessant ventricular arrhythmias is presented. These arrhythmias were resistant to various intravenous antiarrhythmic drugs and to cardiac pacing. Intravenous amiodarone administered over a short period and in a high dose strikingly abolished all ventricular arrhythmias.
