Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common hereditary renal disease. There are some reports in the literature concerning unilateral ADPKD. However, in adults, only a few cases of unilateral ADPKD with agenesis of contralateral kidney have been reported. We present a case of unilateral ADPKD with agenesis of contralateral kidney in a 66-yr-old man. Radiographic image...
BACKGROUND Congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens occurs in 0.5%-1.0% of males. It has been associated with various genitourinary abnormalities, including renal agenesis. We report a case of congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens found incidentally during vasectomy in a patient with known unilateral renal agenesis. CASE PRESENTATION A 24-year-old male presented to our ur...
We report the case of a 13 yr old, asymptomatic girl with agenesis of the right pulmonary artery. In the context of a tuberculosis survey in her school, an X-ray examination disclosed a decreased volume of the right lung. Ventilation and perfusion scans and digital substraction angiography established the diagnosis.
Acute unilateral pulmonary edema is an unusual clinical condition occasionally associated with severe mitral valve insufficiency. We describe a patient diagnosed as having unilateral pulmonary edema after an acute anterior myocardial infarction. Echocardiograms performed in the acute phase ruled out mitral insufficiency. A perfusion lung scan showed left-sided pulmonary hypoperfusion. The diagn...
INTRODUCTION Genital abnormalities have been reported in up to 12 percent of men with unilateral renal agenesis.(1) There have also been reports of neurofibromatosis patients manifesting ipsilateral renal agenesis.(2) Abnormal development of the mesonephric duct between the fourth and thirteenth week of embryonic life seems to be the origin of such cysts, which can have a variable clinical pres...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Bilateral vertebrobasilar junction agenesis is an exceptional anatomic variation. This article explores the angiographic characteristics of this variant and its embryologic mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two observations of bilateral agenesis of the vertebrobasilar junction are reported. A case of atheromatous disease of the vertebrobasilar junction is shown to highl...
Primary pulmonary artery sarcoma classically presents with symptoms and findings suggestive of acute pulmonary artery occlusion. An angiocentric mass or the finding of spindling neoplasm on needle biopsy should suggest this neoplasm. The rare unilateral location in the present case permitted resection by pneumonectomy. An endarterectomy technique was used to extract loosely adherent tumor-throm...
The aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that the gene defect causing congenital absence of maxillary lateral incisors also causes narrowing of the dentition. A total of 81 patients with one or two congenitally missing lateral incisors were retrieved; 52 (64.2 per cent) patients presented bilateral agenesis, whereas 29 (35.8 per cent) had unilateral agenesis. The control group consisted ...
