STUDY DESIGN: Using decision analysis techniques, we compared cost-effectiveness of tubal reanastomosis by tubal type vs tubal surgery or in vitro fertilization (IVF) for 3 separate age groups of women: <35 years of age, 35 to 40 years of age and >40 years of age. Tubal techniques was divided into type A, those with more favorable prognosis because of the likelihood of having a more significant...
Objective-To determine the effect on tubal closure of intrauterine quinacrine by dose and time from administration. Design and Participants-Subjects included 33 women of reproductive age who were awaiting hysterectomy for nonmalignant conditions at a Bombay, India medical college. Ten women received 252 mg quinacrine as pellets using a modified Copper-T IUD inserter followed by hysterectomy wit...
BACKGROUND Prediction of natural conception in subfertile couples can help to differentiate between couples who should have immediate treatment and couples who can aim for natural conception for some time. Natural conception rates are often estimated using standard techniques such as Kaplan-Meier or Cox proportional hazard models. These estimates can be biased by incorrect handling of data from...
Tubal sterilization is a common form of contraception in the United States and is hypothesized to be associated with a lower risk of breast cancer. However, prior observational studies have reported inconsistent results. We investigated the association between tubal sterilization and breast cancer risk among 77,249 postmenopausal, cancer-free women in the Cancer Prevention Study II (CPS-II) Nut...
OBJECTIVES To compare the subsequent fertility and risk of recurrence of an ectopic pregnancy (EP) in women who had had an EP, according to the type of surgical treatment they received--that is, salpingectomy, salpingostomy or tubal anastomosis. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was carried out between January 2003 and September 2011 of 618 patients admitted to hospital with tubal EP and w...
BACKGROUND Genital Chlamydia infection (GCI) and the associated pathologies have been implicated in tubal infertility. Though the actual pathologic mechanisms are still uncertain, oxidative stress and other factors have been implicated. The purpose of the study was to determine the possible contribution of female reproductive hormones and biomarkers of oxidative stress in genital Chlamydial inf...
Possible relationships between tubal ligation and hysterectomy and epithelial ovarian cancer were assessed in data that were collected for a multinational hospital-based case-control study conducted between 1979 and 1988. Histologically confirmed incident cases (n = 393) were compared with controls (n = 2563) matched on age, hospital, and year of interview. A nonsignificant reduction in risk wa...
background: the purpose of this study was to evaluate the fallopian tube of women with infertility and to observe whether there are any significant differences in the hysterosalpingogram findings with regard to prevalence of tubal block in women with primary and secondary infertility. methods: a retrospective study of unilateral and bilateral tubal obstruction in hysterosalpingogram of women wi...
Theoretically, total salpingectomy eliminates the risk of an ipsilateral tubal pregnancy. However, total salpingectomy is difficult to achieve using endoloops alone. We describe a situation where this resulted in an ipsilateral recurrence of tubal pregnancy which required emergency intervention and removal of the tubal remnants.
