In this paper, we give a sequent calculus for separation logic. Unlike the logic of bunched implications, this calculus does not have a tree-shaped context – instead, we use labelled deduction to control when hypotheses can and cannot be used. We prove that cut-elimination holds for this calculus, and show that it is sound with respect to the provability semantics of separation logic.

Paenibacillus polymyxa CF05 is a Gram-positive rod-shaped bacterium isolated from the interior of an ancient tree, Cryptomeria fortunei, in China. This bacterium displays potent biocontrol effects against certain soil-borne diseases and the elicitation of induced systemic resistance in tomatoes. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of P. polymyxa CF05.

Recently developed object-based video coding schemes require the estimation of motion in arbitrary-shaped objects. A quad-tree structured variable size block matching technique is described. The inherent motion is represented by significantly fewer blocks than if conventional fixed size block matching had been used to provide a similar quality prediction.

Previous attempts to quantify the adequacy between phylogenetic trees (cladograms with a temporal dimension) and the fossil record failed because of inappropriate statistics. A general explanation for this failure is based on a hierarchical perception of the temporal scale. When time is conceived as a hierarchy and not as an arrow, it can be expressed by a pectinate-shaped tree. Comparison betw...

Motivated by the problem of allocating optical bandwidth in tree–shaped WDM networks, we study the fractional path coloring problem in trees. We consider the class of locally-symmetric sets of paths on binary trees and prove that any such set of paths has a fractional coloring of cost at most 1.367L, where L denotes the load of the set of paths. Using this result, we obtain a randomized algorit...

Visions of the next generation Web such as the “Semantic Web” or the “Web 2.0” have triggered the emergence of a multitude of data formats. ¿ese formats have di erent characteristics as far as the shape of data is concerned (for example treevs. graph-shaped). ¿ey are accompanied by a puzzlingly large number of query languages each limited to one data format.¿us, a key feature of theWeb, namely ...

We prove NP-completeness of deciding whether a given loop of colored right isosceles triangles, hinged together at edges, can be folded into a specified rectangular three-color pattern. By contrast, the same problem becomes polynomially solvable with one color or when the target shape is a tree-shaped polyomino.

The slit (sli) gene, encoding a secreted glycoprotein, has been demonstrated to play a vital role in axonal guidance in Drosophila melanogaster by acting as a signalling ligand for the robo receptor (Rothberg, J.M., Jacobs, J.R., Goodman, C.S., Artavanis-Tsakonas, S., 1990. slit: an extracellular protein necessary for development of midline glia and commissural axon pathways contains both EGF a...

Let T be an n-node tree of maximum degree 4, and let P be a set of n points in the plane with no two points on the same horizontal or vertical line. It is an open question whether T always has a planar drawing on P such that each edge is drawn as an orthogonal path with one bend (an “L-shaped” edge). By giving new methods for drawing trees, we improve the bounds on the size of the point set P f...

Streets in Motion is a novel intervention which Ritajyoti Bandyopadhyay explicates how streets have shaped the socio-spatial relationships and economic geography of city Calcutta (now Kolkata) offers new methodological pathways for analysing urban historiography streets. The key proposition book that ‘street itself […]
