We present images of a rare case where a primary lung tumour was visualised by transthoracic echocardiography. The patient was a 78-year-old male where Chest X-ray had revealed a tumour-suspected structure in the left lung. Both transthoracic echocardiography and combined PET/CT images showed a large tumour located close to the heart. Fine-needle biopsy showed non-small cell lung cancer.

Purpose: Paravalvular regurgitation post-transcatheter valve replacement is associated with poor outcomes. The Valve Academic Research Consortium has defined qualitative and quantitative criteria for assessing paravalvular leak severity by transthoracic echocardiography. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is highly accurate and reproducible in measuring aortic flow volumes, and has been used fo...

We report a case of a 52-year-old patient with dilated cardiomyopathy who presented with worsening heart failure. Two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography and real-time three dimensional transthoracic echocardiography showed severe dilated cardiac chambers, impaired ejection fraction and a mobile right atrial thrombus 2.6 × 1.0 cm in size, traversing the right atrial cavity during the who...

Introduction. We systematically evaluated the use of transthoracic echocardiography in the assessment of dynamic markers of preload to predict fluid responsiveness in the critically ill adult patient. Methods. Studies in the critically ill using transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) to predict a response in stroke volume or cardiac output to a fluid load were selected. Selection was limited to E...

OBJECTIVES To assess the value of transoesophageal echocardiography in patients with Marfan syndrome particularly those with suspected aortic pathology or where conventional transthoracic imaging was suboptimal. DESIGN AND PATIENTS Eleven patients with Marfan syndrome. Seven patients were studied because of suspected aortic dissection and four because of inadequate transthoracic imaging. IN...

This review focuses on transthoracic Doppler echocardiography as noninvasive method used to assess coronary flow reserve (CFR) in a wide spectrum of clinical settings. Transthoracic Doppler echocardiography is rapidly gaining appreciation as popular tool to measure CFR both in stenosed and normal epicardial coronary arteries (predominantly in left anterior descending coronary artery). Post-sten...

The clinical assessment of patients with respiratory and circulatory problems can be complex, time consuming and have a high incidence of error. Bedside transthoracic ultrasound (US) is a useful adjunctive test in the evaluation of acutely unstable patients. This case series describes the use of the Focus Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography (FATE) protocol to diagnose unsuspected pleural co...

Percutaneous transthoracic core needle biopsy has been advocated as a highly accurate technique for the diagnosis of anterior mediastinal masses. A patient is described with a large anterior mediastinal mass in whom the diagnosis of mediastinal carcinoid tumour was made by transthoracic core needle biopsy. At definitive surgical resection the tumour proved to be a B cell lymphoma. This case ill...

A prominent crista terminalis is a normal anatomic variant which consist of thick muscular bridge within the right atrium. However, it could be often misdiagnosed with an abnormal mass on the transthoracic echocardiography. The case report presented here, describe the findings of transthoracic echocardiography that suggested a right atrial mass in patients with pulmonary embolism. However, subs...

Methods Consecutive patients scheduled for MitraClip were prospectively studied. Patients with pacemaker or ICD were excluded. Transthoracic echocardiography and CMR at 1.5 Tesla were performed before and 6 months after MitraClip procedure. Left ventricular volumes were measured using transthoracic echocardiography (biplane Simpson’s method) and short-axis SSFP CMR images covering the left vent...
