Various barriers for the uptake of energy-efficiency measures in the domestic sector have been identified. Projects try to quantify the effect of individual barriers like transaction costs, information lack, access to technologies or convenience. We propose to use the ‘consumer choice chain’ as a wider framework to understand energy-efficiency choices by domestic consumers. This allows comparis...

In this paper the Multiple Hypothesis Tracking with group tracking is applied to tracking targets in video sequences. The width/height ratio is used as a target feature to help in target/detection association. Group tracking is tested in real video sequences (PETS 2001) and shows that is possible to keep linked the otherwise interrupted tracks.

Multistatic interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) is a promising future payload for a small satellite constellation, providing a low-cost means of augmenting proven “large” SAR mission technology. The Space Flight Laboratory at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies is currently designing CanX-4 and CanX-5, a pair of formation-flying nanosatellites slated for launc...

in this paper effects of fractured sleepers on rail track vibration under moving wheelset have been investigated. two parallel rails of the track have been modeled as euler-bernoulli beams on elastic points as rail pads. also sleepers have been modeled as visco-elastic euler-bernoulli beams. it is assumed that, some sleepers under the rail track have been fractured and modeled by two beams. the...

The water cycle in the western United States changed dramatically over glacial cycles. In the past 20,000 years, higher precipitation caused desert lakes to form which have since dried out. Higher glacial precipitation has been hypothesized to result from a southward shift of Pacific winter storm tracks. We compared Pacific Ocean data to lake levels from the interior west and found that Great B...

The objective of this paper is to identify the incentives and barriers to marriage among cohabiting women, especially disadvantaged mothers who are targets of welfare reform. We use the newly released cohabitation data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (1979-2000), which tracks the partners of cohabiting women across survey waves. Our results support several conclusions. First, coh...

This study was designed to investigate the effects of three countermeasures--landscaping, building a fence and prohibitive signs--on the frequency of trespassing, which in this case means crossing the track at places where it is forbidden. At each location the official route was no more than 300 m away. The main results showed that the effect of each countermeasure on the frequency of trespassi...

Introduction: According to the American Society of Radiation Oncology, all patients receive radiation therapy during their illness, where radiation is delivered by the medical linear accelerator (Linac). The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality assurance (QA) of the Linac in analyzing the used dose profile in the treatment of cancer tumors. Materi...
