Airport departure operations constitute an important source of airline delays and passenger frustration. Excessive surface traffic is the cause of increased controller and pilot workload; It is also the source of increased emissions; It worsens traffic safety and often does not yield improved runway throughput. Acknowledging this fact, this paper explores some of the feedback mechanisms by whic...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to quantify the intensity of competition during two professional bicycle stage races: the Tour de France (Tour) and Vuelta a España (Vuelta). METHODS The HR responses of 18 world class cyclists were recorded during the races and compared with HR ranges that corresponded to four intensities of exercise that were measured in the laboratory with an incremental t...

In this contribution electrical transport and morphological properties of composite structures studied by the help of computer experiment are presented. The structures generated by the hard-sphere model embody tunnel mechanism of conductivity and the classical terms of the percolation theory are redefined. Correlations between electric transport and morphological properties of these structures ...

We study the Price of Anarchy (PoA) of the competitive cascade game following the framework proposed by Goyal and Kearns in [11]. Our main insight is that a reduction to a Linear Threshold Model in a time-expanded graph establishes the submodularity of the social utility function. From this observation, we deduce that the game is a valid utility game, which in turn implies an upper bound of 2 o...

The aim of the study was to assess changes in endurance performance in young runners (females and males) during two training seasons. It involved 19 male and 16 female athletes aged 15-17 specializing in track-and-field middle and long distances runs. The following parameters were measured three times during the training season: maximal oxygen uptake, running economy, and the level of the secon...

This paper presents an exhaustive evaluation of the quality of an audio watermarking algorithm. The integration of the psychoacoustic model into the audio watermarking approach is demonstrated. The quality parameter relating the power of the watermark noise and the masking threshold is presented. The evaluation method is detailed and the quality of the watermarked audio tracks is evaluated with...

Effects of pulse width on discrimination of simultaneous changes in frequency and level of electrical pulse trains were studied in a monkey subject with a cochlear implant. At test-stimulus levels where performance was minimum, frequency difference limens were larger for longer-duration pulses than that for shorter-duration pulses. Several factors may have contributed to these differences.

Ulrich and Vorberg (Attention, Perception, & Psychophysics 71: 1219-1227, 2009) introduced a novel approach for estimating discrimination performance in two-alternative forced choice (2AFC) tasks. This approach avoids pitfalls that are inherent when the order of the standard and the comparison is neglected in estimating the difference limen (DL), as in traditional approaches. The present articl...
