The contribution of the transposons' promoter in the horizontal transfer process is quite overlooked in the scientific literature. To shed light on this aspect we have mimicked the horizontal transfer process in laboratory and assayed in a wide range of hosts (fly, human, yeast and bacteria) the promoter activity of the 5' terminal sequences in Bari1 and Bari3, two Drosophila transposons belong...
The genome of the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. strain PCC6803 has nine kinds of insertion sequence (IS) elements, of which ISY100 in 22 copies is the most abundant. A typical ISY100 member is 947 bp long and has imperfect terminal inverted repeat sequences. It has an open reading frame encoding a 282-amino-acid protein that appears to have partial homology with the transposase encoded by a ...
; daf-2(e1370) hermaphrodites at the nonper-missive temperature and examining cross progeny for dauer formation. The descendants of the cross progeny were also examined to ensure that the mutations were not unlinked, noncomplementing mutations. We also mapped many of the mutations by testing for linkage with unc-29, which maps near daf-16, or else with daf-16–linked restriction fragment length ...
interleukin (il)-35 is a newly discovered suppressive cytokine and has been shown to alleviate inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. the purpose of this study was to investigate immunomodulatory capacity of il-35 in patients with allergic asthma.il-35 mrna expression levels in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (pbmcs) were detected by quantitative real-time pcr (qpcr). the fr...
Arthrobacter aurescens TC1, Arthrobacter chlorophenolicus A6, Arthrobacter crystallopoietes, and Arthrobacter oxydans produce long-chain monoalkenes, predominantly cis-3,25-dimethyl-13-heptacosene. Four other Arthrobacter strains did not form alkenes. The level of cis-3,25-dimethyl-13-heptacosene in Arthrobacter chlorophenolicus A6 remained proportional to cell mass during growth. cis-3,25-Dime...
Interleukin-15 (IL-15) transgenic mice which had been inoculated with Mycobacterium bovis bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) 24 weeks previously showed resistance against airborne infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv accompanied by an increased CD8(+)-Tc1-cell response. IL-15 may be used as an immune adjuvant given with BCG vaccination to enhance its biologic efficacy.
BACKGROUND The role of different chemokine receptors in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS) has been extensively investigated; however, little is known about the difference in the role of chemokine receptors between the pathogenesis of neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and MS. Therefore, we examined the expression of chemokine receptors on peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) in MS and NMO. ME...
