Incorporating peer-review steps in the laboratory report writing process provides benefits to students, but it also can create additional work for laboratory instructors. The laboratory report writing process described here allows the instructor to grade only one lab report for every two to four students, while giving the students the benefits of peer review and prompt feedback on their laborat...
In this paper, following standard arguments, the maximum Renyi entropy problem for the weighted case is analyzed. We verify that under some constrains on weight function, the Student-r and Student-t distributions maximize the weighted Renyi entropy. Furthermore, an extended version of the Hadamard inequality is derived.
In this paper, following the generalization of Delta Normal VaR to Delta Mixture Elliptic VaR in Sadefo-Kamdem [3], we give and explicit formula to estimate linear VaR and ES when the risk factors changes with the mixture of t-Student distributions. In particular, we give rise to Delta-Mixture-Student VaR and the Delta-Mixture-Elliptic ES.
We prove that many of beta, beta prime, gamma, inverse gamma, Student tand ultraspherical distributions are freely infinitely divisible, but some of them are not. The latter negative result follows from a local property of probability density functions. Moreover, we show that the Gaussian, many of ultraspherical and Student t-distributions have free divisibility indicator 1.
An increasingly popular practice for student assignment to public schools in the U.S. is the use of school choice systems. The celebrated Gale-Shapley student-optimal stable mechanism (SOSM) has recently replaced two de cient student assignment mechanisms that were in use in New York City and Boston. We provide theoretical evidence that the SOSM outcome may produce large welfare losses. Then we...
