A base-controlled synthesis of 2-substituted secondary and tertiary 1H-indole-3-carboxamides through PdCl(2)-catalyzed cyclization of o-alkynyltrifluoroacetanilides followed by isocyanide insertion has been developed. The reaction proceeds smoothly at ambient temperature using O(2) in air as the sole oxidant of the palladium catalyst.

A facile two-step method for the construction of fused pyrrole ring leading to 5-substituted 2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[3,2,1-ij]quinolin-1-ones via C-C followed by intramolecular C-N bond forming reaction is described. In vitro pharmacological evaluation and molecular modelling studies of some of the compounds synthesized are presented.

The gold(I)-catalyzed reaction of water with o-acetylenyl-substituted phenyldiazoacetates provides 1H-isochromene derivatives in good yields. The reaction follows a catalytic sequence of gold carbene formation/water O-H insertion/alcohol-alkyne cyclization. The gold(I) complex is the only catalyst in each of these steps.

Pyrrolo[2,1-f][1,2,4]triazin-4(3H)-ones 12 have been easily prepared via nucleophile-induced rearrangement of pyrrolooxadiazines 11 and regioselective intramolecular cyclization of 1,2-biscarbamoyl-substituted 1H-pyrroles 10. In this work, we demonstrated that the described synthetic approaches can be considered to be more facile and practical than previously reported procedures.

Biologically active 4-nitro-substituted 1,3-diaryltriazene, a chemical analogue of 1,3-bis(4'-amidinophenyl)-triazene-berenil®, belongs to the novel, chemically modified class of potent antitumor agents. Its structural characterization by X-ray analysis and 1H NMR spectroscopy is performed to determine molecular overall conformation in view of its possible interaction to DNA.

Oraganometallic derivatives of palladium (o) have been isolated from the displacement reaction of Pd(Pφ3)4 with 1–substituted tetrazoline-5-thione with phenyl, orthotolyl, paratolyl, parachlorophenyl and benzoyl substitution in benzene medium. Most probable tetrahedral structure is assigned on the basic of elemental analysis, electronic, infrared, far infrared and 1H NMR spectral studies.

Some novel 2,3-dioxo-5-(substituted)-arylpyrroles have been synthesized. Among these, pyrrolidine compound 1b was converted to 2,3-dioxo-5-aryl pyrrolidine 2b. Finally a set of hydrazone derivatives was obtained from the reaction of 2b with various hydrazine salts. The structures of all the new synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analyses, IR and 1H-NMR spectra.
