background infections in critical care unit are high, and they are serious hospital problems. infections acquired during the hospital stay are generally called nosocomial infections, initially known as infections arising after 48 h of hospital admission. the mostfrequent nosocomial infections (urinary, respiratory, gastroenteritis and blood stream infection) were common in patients at hospital....

Flooding in urban streams can occur suddenly and cause major environmental infrastructure destruction. Due to the high amounts of impervious surfaces watersheds, runoff from precipitation events a rapid increase stream water levels, leading flooding. With increasing urbanization, it is critical understand how channels will respond prevent catastrophic This study uses Prophet time series machine...

A fixed-wing aircraft that is capable of low airspeed, high angle of attack flight can serve an expanded range of mission goals. A typical propeller-driven small unmanned aircraft can be equipped with an engine that provides greater thrust than airplane weight; in post-stall states, the aircraft then depends on propeller backwash over the tail for control moment generation. Due to this dependen...

Characterizing streambed morphology is crucial to better understand fluvial systems, since the streambed is an important control on stream dynamics, particle motion and bed stability. Measurement apparatus like terrestrial laser scanners or airborne Lidar systems are difficult to successfully apply in such environments, because they need free sight, elevated positions and good aerial or road ac...

Traditional database management systems are best equipped to run onetime queries over finite stored data sets. However, many modern applications such as network monitoring, financial analysis, manufacturing, and sensor networks require long-running, or continuous, queries over continuous unbounded streams of data. In the STREAM project at Stanford, we are investigating data management and query...

The accurate prediction of turbulent flows separating from curved and otherwise continuous surfaces is one of the most difficult tasks for any computational framework. Among several difficulties, two major ones are the unsteady, spatially varying separation region – usually involving patches of alternately separated and attached flow and the need to resolve accurately the very thin near-wall la...

Wen-Jei Yang Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan 1 A n experimental study is performed to investigate the pressure drop distribution and turbulence intensity for airflow through a stack of parallel plates with periodic interruptions. The interrupted surfaces are constructed in an offset-strip f6rm and a perforated form. Hot...

Channel geometry combined with surface chemistry enables a stable liquid boundary flow to be attained along the surfaces of a 12 microm diameter hydrophilic glass fiber in a closed semi-elliptical channel. Surface free energies and triangular corners formed by PDMS/glass fiber or OTS/glass fiber surfaces are shown to be responsible for the experimentally observed wetting phenomena and formation...

While MPI is the most common mechanism for expressing parallelism, MPI programs remain poorly integrated in Unix environments. We introduce MPISH2, an MPI process manager analogous to serial Unix shells. It provides better integration capabilities for MPI programs by providing a uniform execution mechanism for parallel and serial programs, exposing return codes and standard I/O stream information.
