Information processing has an important application which is speech recognition. In this paper, a two hybrid techniques have been presented. The first one is a 3-level hybrid of Stationary Wavelet Transform (S) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (W) and the second one is a 3-level hybrid of Discrete Wavelet Transform (W) and Multi-wavelet Transforms (M). To choose the best 3-level hybrid in each te...

A novel method of extracting heart rate and oxygen saturation from a video-based biosignal is described. The method comprises a novel modular continuous wavelet transform approach which includes: performing the transform, undertaking running wavelet archetyping to enhance the pulse information, extraction of the pulse ridge time-frequency information [and thus a heart rate (HRvid) signal], crea...

In analyzing a signal, especially a non-stationary signal, it is often necessary the desired signal to be segmented into small epochs. Segmentation can be performed by splitting the signal at time instances where signal amplitude or frequency change. In this paper, the signal is initially decomposed into signals with different frequency bands using wavelet transform. Then, fractal dimension of ...

We look at the design of oversampled filter banks and the resulting framelets. The undecimated wavelet transform is known for its shift invariant properties and has applications in areas such as denoising [7]. The framelets we will design, will have improved shift invariant properties over decimated wavelet transform. Shift invariance has applications in many areas particularly denoising [6], [...

Multihypothesis motion compensation is extended into the transform domain by using a redundant wavelet transform to produce multiple predictions that are diverse in transform phase. The corresponding inverse transform implicitly combines the multihypothesis predictions into a single spatial-domain prediction for motion compensation such that no side information is needed to describe the combina...

In this paper, a single discriminating indicator to assess the deterioration of power quality (Deviation Factor of Power Quality) is proposed using tensor analysis and wavelet packet transform (WPT). This factor can be used in the presence of stationary and non-stationary power quality disturbances. In addition, practical examples are included to validate the deviation factor of power quality.

The paper deals with noise power variation that occurs when Discrete Dyadic Wavelet Transform (DDWT) is applied to signals affected by Wide Sense Stationary (WSS) additive white noise owing to the use of a non orthonormal expansion. An exact relationship between the noise variance in the original signal and the noise variance in the wavelet coefficients at a generic level is derived. This relat...

The watershed transform has been used for image segmentation relying mostly on image gradients. However, background noise tends to produce spurious gradients, that cause over-segmentation and degrade the output of the watershed transform. Also, low-contrast edges produce gradients with small magnitudes, which may cause different regions to be erroneously merged. In this paper, a new technique i...

Galaxies are arranged in interconnected walls and filaments forming a cosmic web encompassing huge, nearly empty, regions between the structures. Many statistical methods have been proposed in the past in order to describe the galaxy distribution and discriminate the different cosmological models. We present in this paper results relative to the use of new statistical tools using the 3D isotrop...

ABSTRACT Differential operators have been widely used for multiscale geometric descriptions of images. Efficient computation of these differential operators can be obtained by taking advantage of the spline techniques. In this paper, we make use of a special class of these operators for image enhancement, with a particular application to chromosome image enhancement. These operators constitute ...
