Many countries using sensitive screening methods for detection of carriage of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have a sustained low incidence of MRSA infections. For diagnostic laboratories with high sample volumes, MRSA screening requires stability, low maintenance and high performance at a low cost. Herein we designed oligonucleotides for a new nuc targeted hydrolysis probe ...
BACKGROUND Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterial pathogen frequently isolated in both hospital and community environments. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is considered a major nosocomial pathogen that causes severe morbidity and mortality. OBJECTIVES The main objective of this study was to determine the genotypes of MRSA strains isolated from the nares...
Background: Deep neck infections (DNIs) continues to be encountered in daily clinical practice even in the settings of widespread antibiotic use. We investigated the microbiology of deep neck infections and antibiogram profiles of Staphylococcus aureus isolates. Methods: Isolation and characterization of Staphylococcus aureus strains were performed from pus samples aspirated from clinically sus...
The frequency of MRSA (Methicillin cephem resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infection has increased recently. A case of septicemia caused by MRSA is reported with discussion on its prophylaxis.
INTRODUCTION Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is spread out in hospitals across different regions of the world and is regarded as the major agent of nosocomial infections, causing infections such as skin and soft tissue pneumonia and sepsis. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for methicillin-resistance in Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infection (BSI) and th...
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections have become common among both hospitalized and nonhospitalized patients. Optimal outpatient therapy for MRSA infections has yet to be determined, but this matter is complicated by the possibility of inducible macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B resistance (MLSBi). We studied the prevalence of MLSBi in community- and hospital-associ...
A new methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) clone related to pig and cattle farming was detected in the Netherlands. We investigated the extent of S. aureus presence in meat and found 36 S. aureus strains in 79 samples. Two strains were MRSA; 1 was multilocus sequence type 398, the clone related to farming.
Ten samples containing various amounts of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), methicillin-susceptible S. aureus, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE), and combinations thereof were distributed to 51 laboratories for molecular diagnostics testing. Samples containing 10(2) to 10(3) MRSA cells were frequently reported to be negative. MRSE samples were scored as n...
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS To examine the changing microbiology of pediatric neck abscesses over a 10-year period with particular interest in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections and their associated antibacterial-resistance patterns, including resistance to clindamycin, a frequently used antibiotic for Staphylococcus aureus. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective chart review at a te...
OBJECTIVE To analyze multilocus sequence typing (MLST) of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains in 2000 and 2005, and get a primary knowledge of MLST Characterization of MRSA. METHODS Sequence analysis was conducted on seven allelic genes of 29 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains and 2 methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) strains and the alle...
