Blue nevus is a benign melanocytic lesion whose most frequent variants are dendritic (common) blue nevus and cellular blue nevus. Atypical cellular blue nevus presents an intermediate histopathology between the typical and a rare variant of malignant blue nevus/melanoma arising in a cellular blue nevus. An 8-year-old child presented a pigmented lesion in the buttock since birth, but with progre...

The present study describes two novel antigens, a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 113,000 and a protein with a molecular weight of 76,000, which are associated with the transformed phenotype of melanocytes. The monoclonal antibodies (MoAb) MUC18 and MUC54, raised against human malignant melanoma, were selected for differential reactivity with normal and neoplastic cells of melanocyte li...

The polytopic membrane protein Rhomboid-1 promotes the cleavage of the membrane-anchored TGFalpha-like growth factor Spitz, allowing it to activate the Drosophila EGF receptor. Until now, the mechanism of this key signaling regulator has been obscure, but our analysis suggests that Rhomboid-1 is a novel intramembrane serine protease that directly cleaves Spitz. In accordance with the putative R...

S elf reliance is not enough. Some organs rely on the kindness of others to control their size, according to Correct organ size is measured in mass, not cell numbers— forcing or blocking cell division generally does not change an organ's overall dimensions. Parker found the same is true in the fl y embryonic P compartment, which forms part of the larval epidermis. Increases in P compartment cel...

Kissing nevus is a curious type of nevus that was first described on the eyelids and rarely described on the penis. We report two cases of kissing nevus of the penis and review previously reported cases. The lesions of the kissing nevus of the penis showed characteristic mirror-image symmetry relative to the coronal sulcus. On histopathology, the lesion showed a compound nevus.

Malignant blue nevus is rare, and a common blue nevus rarely needs a differential diagnosis from malignant melanoma. Although a melanocytic nevus with a satellite lesion is usually suggestive of a peripherally disseminating malignant melanoma, very few cases of blue nevus with satellite lesions have been reported thus far. To our knowledge, this is the seventh case of a blue nevus with satellit...
