Anomalous x–ray pulsars (AXPs) and soft gamma–ray repeaters (SGRs) are x–ray sources with unusual properties distinguishing them from both rotation–powered and most accretion–powered pulsars. Using archival ASCA data over the energy range 0.5 − 10.0 keV, we have studied the spectra of the persistent emission from these sources and their variation with spin-down rate. Using a single power law sp...

We report the observation of strong coupling between the exchange-coupled spins in a gallium-doped yttrium iron garnet and a superconducting coplanar microwave resonator made from Nb. The measured coupling rate of 450 MHz is proportional to the square root of the number of exchange-coupled spins and well exceeds the loss rate of 50 MHz of the spin system. This demonstrates that exchange-coupled...
We study the effect of the neutron star spin – kick velocity alignment observed in young radio pulsars on the coalescence rate of binary neutron stars. Two scenarios of the neutron star formation are considered: when the kick is always present and when it is small or absent if a neutron star is formed in a binary system due to electroncapture degenerate core collapse. The effect is shown to be ...
In the frame work of relativistic density functional theory, using full potential local orbital band structure scheme (FPLO), the magnetic properties of single 3d transition metals (3d-TM) adsorbed on 2D hexagonal boron nitride (2D h-BN) are investigated. Binding energies between 3d-TM adatoms and 2D h-BN in three different compositions, local spin magnetic moments of 3d-TM and total spin magne...
The Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) experiment is widely used to quantitatively analyse the effects of chemical exchange on NMR spectra. In a CPMG experiment, the effective transverse relaxation rate, R2,eff, is typically measured as a function of the pulse frequency, νCPMG. Here, an exact expression for how R2,eff varies with νCPMG is derived for the commonly encountered scenario of two-site ...
Atoms confined in a magnetic trap can escape by making spin-flip Majorana transitions due to a breakdown of the adiabatic approximation. Several papers have studied this process for atoms with spin F = 1/2 or F = 1. The present paper calculates the escape rate for atoms with spin F > 1. This problem has new features because the perturbation ∆T which allows atoms to escape satisfies a selection ...
It is proposed that spin-crossing effects can dramatically affect reaction mechanisms, rate constants, branching ratios, and temperature behaviors of organometallic transformations. This phenomenon is termed two-state reactivity (TSR) and involves participation of spin inversion in the rate-determining step. While the present analysis is based on studies of transition metals under idealized con...
