This paper gives an overview about the state of the development of various perception-based quality models. The overview addresses dimension-based modeling and models which specifically focus on quality evaluation in the presence of background noise and modeling echo impairments. Finally the quality evaluation of Text-ToSpeech (TTS) systems is discussed.

The German Text-to-Speech Synthesis system MARY is presented. An interface allowing to access and modify intermediate processing steps without the need for a technical understanding of the system is described, along with examples of how this interface can be put to use in research, development and teaching.
