background : human wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stem cells (hwjmscs) express liver-specific markers such as albumin, alpha-fetoprotein, cytokeratin-19, cytokeratin-18, and glucose-6-phosphatase. therefore, they can be considered as a good source for cell replacement therapy for liver diseases. this study aimed to evaluate the effects of various culture systems on the hepatocyte-specific gene exp...

we investigated the use of dna amplification by polymerase chain reaction (per) for detection of mycobacterium tuberculosis in 300 patients who were suspected of having pulmonary tuberculosis and compared the results with culture results which were performed in parallel with pcr. two-thirds of each sample was processed for smear and culture by standard methods and one-third was prepared for dna...

Culture-independent fecal source tracking methods have many potential advantages over library-dependent, isolate-culture methods, but they have been subjected to limited testing. The purpose of this study was to compare culture-independent, library-independent methods of fecal source tracking. Five laboratories analysed identical sets of aqueous samples that contained one or more of the followi...

To obtain cellulases that are capable of degrading crystalline cellulose and cedar wood, metagenomic libraries were constructed from raw soil sample which was covered to pile of cedar wood sawdust or from its enrichment cultures. The efficiency of screening of metagenomic library was improved more than 3 times by repeating enrichment cultivation using crystalline cellulose as a carbon source, c...

Somaclones with typical and atypical shoots were regenerated from a callus culture in the same culture medium and in equal culture conditions. Since the genetic relationship among regenerated somaclones has not been investigated, current study employed heterologous microsatellite primers to examine the molecular diversity within and among somaclones, showing typical and atypical phenotypes with...

A phototrophic enrichment culture, using acetate as carbon source, reductively dechlorinated 2,3,5,6-tetrachlorobiphenyl. ortho chlorines were removed preferentially over meta chlorines. Triand dichlorobiphenyls were the major, products. During 14 months incubation, chlorine was removed from 58% of the target molecules; 19% of the total chlorines were removed. Dechlorination did not occur in a ...

Over a 9-month period, 14 strains of Ralstonia pickettii were isolated from various biological samples inoculated in a blood culture medium. Molecular epidemiological investigation confirmed the relatedness of the strains. The source of the contamination proved to be the blood culture bottle caps.

A microbial enrichment culture from marine sediment was able to grow on hexadecan-2-one as the sole source of carbon and energy under sulfate-reducing conditions. Oxidation of the ketone involved carboxylation reactions and was coupled to sulfide production. This enrichment culture also grew on 6,10,14-trimethylpentadecan-2-one.

The perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)-degrading strain YAB1 was isolated from the soil near a perfluorinated compound production plant through acclimation and enrichment culture, using PFOA as the sole carbon source. This strain was preliminarily identified as Pseudomonas parafulva based on colony morphology, physiological and biochemical features, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Using shaking flask ...
