Mountain ash (Sorbus decora and S. americana) is used by the Cree Nation of the James Bay region of Quebec (Eeyou Istchee) as traditional medicine. Its potential as an antidiabetic medicine is thought to vary across its geographical range, yet little is known about the factors that affect its antioxidant capacity. Here, we examined metabolite gene expression in relation to antioxidant activity,...

Information is highly scarce about the possible effect of a late spring frost on physiological response buds in ornamental trees. In this study, temperature Changchun at Northeast China was recorded to identify characteristics false by detecting extraordinary warming and sudden freeze early April 2017. Buds six local tree species were investigated for their dynamics biomass, non-structural carb...

The distribution and population sizes of Sorbus cambrensis (Welsh Whitebeam) S. stenophylla (Llanthony (Rosaceae) are revised based on field surveys. About 224 trees occur in eight populations/subpopulations (including the Llanthony Valley), about 96 five populations/subpopulations. Morphological analysis leaves confirmed two species were different showed some variation within each species.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Various correlations have been identified between anatomical features of bordered pits in angiosperm xylem and vulnerability to cavitation, suggesting that the mechanical behaviour of the pits may play a role. Theoretical modelling of the membrane behaviour has been undertaken, but it requires input of parameters at the nanoscale level. However, to date, no experimental data...

BACKGROUND Sorbus rufopilosa, a tsema rowan, is a species of the small ornamental trees in the genus Sorbus and the family Rosaceae found in East Asia. The bioactivities of S. rufopilosa have not yet been fully determined. The objective of this study is to evaluate the antioxidant and anticancer effects of ethanol extract of S. rufopilosa (EESR) and to determine the molecular mechanism of its a...
