Utilization of motion capture techniques is becoming more popular in the pipeline of articulated character animation. Based upon captured motion data, defining accurate joints position and joints orientation for the movement of a hierarchical human-like character without using a pre-defined skeleton is still a potential concern for motion capture studio. In this paper, we present a method for a...

The eikonal equation and variants of it are of significant interest for problems in computer vision and image processing. It is the basis for continuous versions of mathematical morphology, stereo, shape-from-shading and for recent dynamic theories of shape. Its numerical simulation can be delicate, owing to the formation of singularities in the evolving front, and is typically based on level s...

The goal of this paper is to construct a quadrilateral mesh around a one-dimensional skeleton that is as coarse as possible, the “scaffold”. A skeleton allows one to quickly describe a shape, in particular a complex shape of high genus. The constructed scaffold is then a potential support for the surface representation: it provides a topology for the mesh, a domain for parametric representation...

We present a method for extracting a hierarchical, rigid skeleton from a set of example poses. We then use this skeleton to not only reproduce the example poses, but create new deformations in the same style as the examples. Since rigid skeletons are used by most 3D modeling software, this skeleton and the corresponding vertex weights can be inserted directly into existing production pipelines....

Identifying a precise anatomic skeleton is important in order to ensure high quality motion capture. In this paper we discuss two skeleton fitting techniques based on 3D optical marker data. First a local technique is proposed based on relative marker trajectories. Then it is compared to a global optimization of a skeleton model. Various proposals are made to handle the skin deformation problem.

Neandertal faces have been described as being derived with respect to their overall length or degree of anterior projection. A comparison of cranial and mandibular indicators of lower facial projection across archaic and modern Homo indicates that Neandertal facial lengths on average are similar to those of preceding archaic Homo and principally contrast with those of recent humans. Neandertal ...

OBJECTIVES This is the first investigation of dietary practices amongst multiple early medieval populations (AD 500-1000) from Wales and the Isle of Man using carbon, nitrogen, and sulphur isotope analysis. The analysis will illuminate similarities or differences between the diets and subsistence strategies of populations occupying different geographical regions, specifically those living in ma...

I report on tiny skeletons of stem-group hummingbirds from the early Oligocene of Germany that are of essentially modern appearance and exhibit morphological specializations toward nectarivory and hovering flight. These are the oldest fossils of modern-type hummingbirds, which had not previously been reported from the Old World. The findings demonstrate that early hummingbird evolution was not ...

Skeleton-based action recognition attracts practitioners and researchers due to the lightweight, compact nature of datasets. Compared with RGB-video-based recognition, skeleton-based is a safer way protect privacy subjects while having competitive performance. However, improvements in skeleton algorithms as well motion depth sensors, more details characteristics can be preserved dataset, leadin...
