Little is known about enzymatic quinone-quinol interconversions in the lipid membrane when compared with our knowledge of substrate transformations by globular enzymes. Here, the smallest example of a quinol dehydrogenase in nature, CymA, has been studied. CymA is a monotopic membrane tetraheme c-type cytochrome belonging to the NapC/NirT family and central to anaerobic respiration in Shewanell...

Shewanella sp. strain F1, isolated from a lab-scale Fe(II)−dependent anaerobic denitrifying reactor, could reduce nitrate by oxidizing Fe(II). Its reduction rate and Fe(II) oxidation were 0.48 mg/(L·h) 5.05 at OD600 of 0.4786 with five-fold diluent. was popular in Fe(III) reduction. Fewer studies about its ability for are available. The low pH determined to be the switch F1 perform or oxidation...

Phospholipase D, with a molecular mass of 64 kDa, was purified from the psychrophile, Shewanella sp. The enzyme showed maximal activity at pH 7.8 and 40 degrees C in the presence of the Ca2+-ion, and its activity at 10 degrees C was 6.5% of maximum. The enzyme exhibited high activity to the non-micelle form of phosphatidylcholine in an aqueous solution containing water miscible alcohols such as...

UNLABELLED Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 is an important model organism for environmental research as it has an exceptional metabolic and respiratory versatility regulated by a complex regulatory network. We have developed a database to collect experimental and computational data relating to regulation of gene and protein expression, and, a visualization environment that enables integration of the...

Agro-residues were used as the substrate for the production of fibrinolytic enzyme in solid state fermentation. In this study, two-level full factorial design (25) and response surface methodology were applied to optimize a fermentation medium for the production of fibrinolytic enzyme from the marine isolate Shewanella sp. IND20. The 25 factorial design demonstrated that the physical factors (p...

The haloalkaliphilic bacterium Alkalilimnicola ehrlichii is capable of anaerobic chemolithoautotrophic growth by coupling the oxidation of arsenite (As(III)) to the reduction of nitrate and carbon dioxide. Analysis of its complete genome indicates that it lacks a conventional arsenite oxidase (Aox), but instead possesses two operons that each encode a putative respiratory arsenate reductase (Ar...

We sequenced a carbapenem-resistant Shewanella putrefaciens isolate cultured from the sink handle of a Pakistan hospital room. Assembly annotation indicates that the isolate has a chromosomal blaOXA-436 carbapenemase and a plasmid-borne blaNDM-1 gene. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a Shewanella species harboring blaNDM.
