Lactate but not acetate oxidation was reported to support electron acceptor reduction by Shewanella spp. under anoxic conditions. We demonstrate that the denitrifiers Shewanella loihica strain PV-4 and Shewanella denitrificans OS217 utilize acetate as an electron donor for denitrification but not for fumarate or ferric iron reduction.
Lipoic acid, an essential enzyme cofactor, is required in three domains of life. In the past 60 years since its discovery, most of the pathway for lipoic acid synthesis and metabolism has been elucidated. However, genetic control of lipoic acid synthesis remains unclear. Here, we report integrative evidence that bacterial cAMP-dependent signaling is linked to lipoic acid synthesis in Shewanella...
Shewanella xiamenensis BC01 is an important biodecolorizing and nanowire-producing bacterium which was found in Xiamen, China. Here, we present the draft genome sequence consisting of 4,677,169 bp (GC content, 46.21%) and 3,999 coded proteins. This information boosts insight into and understanding of the genetic evolution of Shewanella species.
background & aim: in this study, is done during one-year research on blue–green and green algae for antimicrobial activity in mashhad suburb. aqueous, ether, and methanol extracts from 44 species blue – green algae and green algae were examined for antimicrobial properties against four bacteria (tow positive gram bacteria and tow negative gram bacteria) and tow fungous. material & meth...
Aflatoxigenic Aspergillus fungi and associated aflatoxins are ubiquitous in the production and storage of food/feed commodities. Controlling these microbes is a challenge. In this study, the Shewanella algae strain YM8 was found to produce volatiles that have strong antifungal activity against Aspergillus pathogens. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry profiling revealed 15 volatile organic com...
Shewanellae are facultative gamma-proteobacteria whose remarkable respiratory versatility has resulted in interest in their utility for bioremediation of heavy metals and radionuclides and for energy generation in microbial fuel cells. Extensive experimental efforts over the last several years and the availability of 21 sequenced Shewanella genomes made it possible to collect and integrate a we...
This data article contains transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of psychrotolerant bacterium Shewanella olleyana sp. nov. Cells of S. olleyana were grown following an optimized culture conditions in liquid medium. Procedure for the preparation of cells suitable for TEM is described in detail.
