The alfalfa caterpillar, Colias lesbia (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: Pieridae), is a major pest of alfalfa, Medicago sativa L. (Fabales: Fabaceae), crops in Argentina. Its management is based mainly on chemical control of larvae whenever the larvae exceed the action threshold. To develop and validate fixed-precision sequential sampling plans, an intensive sampling programme for C. lesbia eggs was c...

This work concerns sequential techniques for the canonical blind deconvolution problem in communications signal processing, relating to the estimation of the transmitted (discrete-valued) data sequence from the observed signal at the receiver input, in the presence of unknown linear channel filtering, without recourse to extended training sequences for start-up. This problem has a significant h...

A pest management decision to initiate a control treatment depends upon an accurate estimate of mean pest density. Presence-absence sampling plans significantly reduce sampling efforts to make treatment decisions by using the proportion of infested leaves to estimate mean pest density in lieu of counting individual pests. The use of sequential hypothesis testing procedures can significantly red...

Diffusion models are widely-used and successful accounts of the time course of two-choice decision making. Most diffusion models assume constant boundaries, which are the threshold levels of evidence that must be sampled from a stimulus to reach a decision. We summarize theoretical results from statistics that relate distributions of decisions and response times to diffusion models with time-va...

We present faster overlap tests between spheres and either axis-aligned or oriented boxes. By utilizing quick rejection tests, faster execution times are observed compared to previous techniques. In addition, we present alternative vectorized overlap tests, which are compared to the sequential algorithms. Source code is available online.

We adapt techniques employed in the design of parallel sorting algorithms to propose new sequential and multi-core sorting operations. The proposed approach is used to develop asymptotically efficient deterministic and randomized sorting operations whose practical sequential and multi-core performance, as witnessed by an experimental study, matches or surpasses existing optimized sorting algori...

Sampling from high-dimensional systems often suffers from the curse of dimensionality. In this paper, we explored the use of sequential structures in sampling from high-dimensional systems with an aim at eliminating the curse of dimensionality, and proposed an algorithm, so-called sequential parallel tempering as an extension of parallel tempering. The algorithm was tested with the witch's hat ...

A sequential sampling model for multiattribute binary choice options, called multiattribute attention switching (MAAS) model, assumes a separate sampling process for each attribute. During the deliberation process attention switches from one attribute consideration to the next. The order in which attributes are considered as well for how long each attribute is considered-the attention time-infl...
