Hyperspectral data potentially contain more information than multispectral data because of their higher spectral resolution. However, the stochastic data analysis approaches that have been successfully applied to multispectral data are not as effective for hyperspectral data as well. Various investigations indicate that the key problem that causes poor performance in the stochastic approaches t...

The separability problem for languages from a class C by languages of a class S asks, for two given word languages I and E from C, whether there exists a language S from S which includes I and excludes E, that is, I ⊆ S and S ∩ E = ∅. It is known that separability for context-free languages by any class containing all definite languages (such as regular languages) is undecidable. We show that s...

This paper studies a novel paradigm for learning formal languages from positive and negative examples which consists of mapping strings to an appropriate highdimensional feature space and learning a separating hyperplane in that space. Such mappings can often be represented flexibly with string kernels, with the additional benefit of computational efficiency. The paradigm inspected can thus be ...

We consider the problem where a network of sensors has to detect the presence of targets at any of n possible locations in a finite region. All such locations may not be occupied by a target. The data from sensors is fused to determine the set of locations that have targets. We term this the separability problem. In this paper, we address the separability of an asymptotically large number of st...

Hyperspectral imaging with gathering hundreds spectral bands from the surface of the Earth allows us to separate materials with similar spectrum. Hyperspectral images can be used in many applications such as land chemical and physical parameter estimation, classification, target detection, unmixing, and so on. Among these applications, classification is especially interested. A hyperspectral im...

We explain several separability criteria which rely on uncertainty relations. For the derivation of these criteria uncertainty relations in terms of variances or entropies can be used. We investigate the strength of the separability conditions for the case of two qubits and show how they can improve entanglement witnesses.
