INTRODUCTION Glycerin is a rare sensitizer and is widely used for cosmetics, medicine, and food for its stable, nontoxic properties. We report on a patient with generalized urticarial eruptions who had contact urticaria syndrome caused by glycerin enema. Our case suggests that glycerin can be a cause of contact urticaria syndrome and even anaphylaxis, although allergic reactions to glycerin are...

YD12 (eta = 6.7%) is a green sensitizer remarkable for its outstanding cell performance beyond that of N719 (eta = 6.1%) with no added scattering layer; the additional scattering layer assists N719 in promoting the efficiency in the red shoulder of the spectrum, but has only a small effect on the improvement of the cell performance for porphyrins.

Oxasmaragdyrin boron complexes were prepared and applied in DSSCs. The HOMO-LUMO energy gap analyses and theoretical calculations revealed that these expanded porphyrins are ideal sensitizers for DSSCs. A device containing oxasmaragdyrin-BF2 as the sensitizer achieves an energy conversion efficiency of 5.7%.

We report a modular design of vesicular chemosensors by co-embedding a Tb(III) complex and a receptor-sensitizer conjugate in phospholipid vesicles. The binding of phosphate anions to the vesicle surface in aqueous media is detected by a decrease in Tb(III) phosphorescence. The sensory response can be modulated by a variation in the membrane fluidity.

The role of thymine dimerization for previously reported U.V. induced conformational changes has been proved using acetophenone as sensitizer for the specific thymine dimerization upon irradiation at 313 nm. CD results demonstrate that formation of pyrimidine dimers cause typical conformational changes of the DNA B helix as observed on irradiation at 254 nm. Thus the primary role of adenine pho...

We report the design and synthesis of Ir-complex functionalized CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs), in which the QD plays a key role in imaging, while the Ir-complex acts as a sensitizer to produce singlet oxygen; this conceptual design presents a novel scheme in both bio-imaging and photodynamic therapy.

We propose a new approach for the versatile sensitization of luminescent lanthanide cations. A hydrophobic chromophore is incorporated into a micellar assembly formed by the amphiphilic lanthanide chelate. The sensitizer to lanthanide energy transfer occurs between the two moieties without covalent linkage.

Photophysical and photochemical characterization of a novel cationic silicon phthalocyanine with excellent water solubility properties is reported. The robust red-light responsive compound shows very attractive features as a sensitizer for reductive and oxidative quenching processes to trigger photocatalytic substrate conversion in aqueous solution.

The synthesis and photodecomposition behaviour of a family of CO releasing molecules (CORMs) based on [Mn(CO)3bpy] derivatives connected to a semiconductor Quantum Dot (QD) sensitizer is described here. Compared to the non-sensitized complexes, such systems show a 2 to 6-fold increase of the photodecomposition rate upon irradiation with visible light.

The behavior of a pyridinium-substituted dimethyldihydropyrene photo-switch under aerobic conditions was investigated. During irradiation with red light (λ ≥ 630 nm), this compound plays the role of oxygen sensitizer and is quantitatively converted into an endoperoxide derivative. The photo-produced endoperoxide then thermally releases singlet oxygen to regenerate the starting compound.
