We demonstrate that a new type of analysis in heavy–ion collisions, based on an event– by–event analysis of the transverse momentum distribution, allows us to obtain information on secondary interactions and collective behaviour that is not available from the inclusive spectra. Using a random walk model as a simple phenomenological description of initial state scattering in collisions with heav...

Light-pair corrections to small-angle Bhabha scattering have been computed in a realistic set-up for luminosity measurements at LEP. The effect of acollinearity and acoplanarity rejection criteria has been carefully analysed for typical calorimetric event selections. The magnitude of the correction, depending on the details of the considered set-up, is comparable with the present experimental e...

The analysis of event shape variables enable studies of QCD and determinations of α s , but require predictions to next-to-leading order. The predictions of two next-to-leading order programs are compared for current jet thrust, current jet-broadening, C parameter and jet-mass in deep inelastic scattering.

A cuboid structure was constructed using a DNA origami design based on a square prism structure. The structure was characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and dynamic light scattering. The real-time opening event of the cuboid was directly observed by high-speed AFM.

Studies of hadronic final states of e + e − annihilations at LEP are reviewed. The topics included cover hadronic event shapes, measurements of αs, determinations of QCD colour factors and tests of the non-Abelian gauge structure of QCD, differences between quark and gluon jets, QCD with heavy quarks and selected results of two-photon scattering processes.

We report differential scattering experiments on the laser excitation of Na + M collision pairs with M = N(2), CO, C(2)H(2), and CO(2). The collision event is probed by the laser polarization revealing geometric and electronic properties of the collision pair. The experimental data are compared to the results of a Monte Carlo trajectory simulation using ab initio quantum chemical data.

A new resonance version of NLS equation is found and embedded to the reactiondiffusion system, equivalent to the anti-de Sitter valued Heisenberg model, realizing a particular gauge fixing condition of the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. The space-time points where dispersion change the sign correspond to the event horizon, and the soliton solutions to the AdS black holes. The soliton with velocity ...

Multiple scattering can be regarded as a succession of elementary events. The distribution function for the particles which have gone through n+1 elementary events is the convolution of two functions. The erst of these expresses the scattering law; the second one is the distribution function for particles which have gone through n events. It is well known that such convolutions can be calculate...

This paper discusses the gravitational scattering of a straight, infinitely long test cosmic string by a black hole. We present numerical results that probe the two-dimensional parameter space of impact parameter and initial velocity and compare them to approximate perturbative solutions derived previously. We analyze string scattering and loop formation in the ultra-relativistic regime and com...
