We review recent burst-mode receiver technologies beyond 10Gb/s for broadband access and fast optical-switching networks, focusing on multi-level modulations. The performance of newly developed 25Gb/s 3-level burst-mode receiver using low-cost 10Gb/s APDs is also presented.
