The membrane-bound, solubilized, and trypsin-treated forms of Mg, Ca-ATPase from E. coli are inhibited by ruthenium red [RR]. The inhibition is noncompetitive and is reduced at higher substrate concentrations. n-Butanol-extracted ATPase is not inhibited by ruthenium red and is not activated by KCl.

The catalytic water oxidation activity of mononuclear ruthenium complexes comprising a pyridine-functionalized abnormal triazolylidene ligand can be adjusted by modification of the triazolylidene substituents, which is readily achieved through click-type cycloaddition chemistry, affording some of the most active ruthenium catalysts known thus far for water oxidation (TONs > 400, TOFs close to 7...

Unlike many other metal and metalloid ions, tin(II) elicits intense, analytically useful chemiluminescence upon reaction with tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(III) in acidic aqueous solution. This finding provides new insight into the nature of this widely used reagent and has enabled the first direct, selective determination of a metal ion with tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(III).

A dinuclear ruthenium(II) complex Ruazo was designed and synthesized, in which oxidative cyclization of the azo and o-amino group was employed for the detection of hypochlorous acid (HClO) in aqueous solution. The non-emissive Ruazo formed highly luminescent triazole-ruthenium(II) complex in presence of HClO and successfully imaged HClO in living cell and living mouse.

Short peptides have been tethered to a DNA-intercalating ruthenium complex to create a photoactivated cross-linking reagent. The ruthenium complex, [Ru(phen)(bpy')(dppz)]2+ (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, bpy' = 4-(butyric acid)-4'-methyl-2,2'-bipyridine, and dppz = dipyridophenazine), delivers the peptide to DNA and initiates the cross-linking reaction by oxidizing DNA upon irradiation in the pre...

A readily available pincer ruthenium(II) complex catalyzes the selective monoalkylation of (hetero)aromatic amines with a wide range of primary alcohols (including pyridine-, furan-, and thiophene-substituted alcohols) with high efficiency when used in low catalyst loadings (1 mol %). Tertiary amine formation via polyalkylation does not occur, making this ruthenium system an excellent catalyst ...

Two ethylene linked binuclear mixed ferrocene/ruthenium complexes were biologically investigated in comparison to structurally related mononuclear ferrocene or ruthenium species with styryl substituents or ligands. Results indicated that the electron distribution (but not the redox potential), cellular uptake and (to some minor extent) anti-estrogenic effects were the key contributors to antipr...

An efficient amine-/ruthenium-catalyzed three-step process for the synthesis of Nefopam analogues was achieved through combinations of cascade enamine amination/iso-aromatization/allylation and diene or enyne metathesis as key steps starting from functionalized Hagemann's esters. In this communication, we discovered the application of ruthenium-catalysis on olefins containing free amines withou...

We have demonstrated directional photoinduced electron transfer in paraquat silicate thin films containing entrapped ruthenium(II)-tris(bathophenanthroline-disulfonate (RuBPS). The films were made by electrochemically-induced hydrolysis of a silane analogue of paraquat with ruthenium(II)-tris(bathophenanthroline-disulfonate as its ion pair.

Terpyridine 4H-imidazole-ruthenium(II) complexes are considered promising candidates for use as sensitizers in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) by displaying broad absorption in the visible range, where the dominant absorption features are due to metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) transitions. The ruthenium(III) intermediates resulting from photoinduced MLCT transitions are essential inte...
