We present a 71-year-old male, who had had a heart transplantation 24 years prior, who came to our clinic with a low-grade fever and a new II/VI holosystolic murmur. Echocardiography showed a large mass in the right atrium with attachment near the junction of the right atrium and superior vena cava. The patient was taken to the operating room for resection of the mass. Microscopic evaluation wa...
it has been well - established that common atrial flutter is due to intraatrial macroreentry and its reentry circuit locates in the right atrium. this reentry circuit has been characterized to involve an area of slow conduction identifiable electrophysiologically at the low posteroseptal right atrium and anatomical narrow isthmus snrrounded by the inferior vena capa, coronary sinus astium and t...
A mass lesion developed in the right atrium at the site of a trans-septal puncture after percutaneous balloon dilatation of the mitral valve in a man aged 74. The lesion had the pathological appearance of an atrial myxoma and seemed to have developed after trauma to the intra-atrial septum. This case suggests that at least some atrial myxomas are reactive rather than neoplastic in origin.
Echocardiographic diagnosis of atrial myxoma may not always be straightforward, and the distinction between myxoma and thrombi is not easy, especially when we observe a mass after successful surgery. Our report describes a 72-year-old woman who presented with right upper limb hemiparesis and was subsequently diagnosed as having transient ischemic attack due to a left atrial myxoma. One month af...
We report a case of a 33-year-old Caucasian male who presented with myocardial infarction and a right atrial mass. Coronary catheterization demonstrated a right coronary aneurysm. In this report, we describe magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings of a right coronary artery aneurysm with thromboembolism formation, resulting in inferior myocardial infarction.
A middle-aged woman with a history of resected colorectal cancer and receiving chemotherapy presented with a right atrial mass and the provisional diagnosis of myxoma supported by echocardiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Successful surgical removal revealed organized thrombus instead. Atrial thrombus may be mistaken for myxoma and long-term intracardiac indwelling ...
BACKGROUND Pulmonary hypertension (PH) occurs frequently and results in functional limitation in advanced COPD. Data regarding the functional consequence of PH in less severe COPD are limited. Whether echocardiographic evidence of right sided heart pathology is associated with functional outcomes in patients with non-severe COPD is unknown. METHODS We evaluated pulmonary function, six minute ...
