The goal of this paper is to analyse the effect of adding Al on the non-steady pearlite growth occurring in a Fe-C-Mn system. The results are discussed in terms of the partitioning of elements across the austenite/ferrite and austenite/cementite interfaces, and the modification of the pearlite driving force related to the change in carbon activity in austenite.
The aim of the current work was to analyse impact salt bath nitriding on behavior tribological characteristics and surface microstructures AISI 316L stainless steels. Nitriding carried out at 580°C for 10 h. tribological, structural before after compared. microstructures, characteristics, as well its hardness, were investigated using optical microscopy (OM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), profilom...
Carbon case hardening, through natural evolution, commercialism, and economics, has become a process for which the possible number of variables is so large that it is hardly likely that any two companies will process exactly the same. There will always be some difference in choice of materials, equipment, or technique, and there will often be differences in the quality of the product. There may...
The purpose of the present work is to investigate the influence of the number of weld-passes on microstructure, hardness and residual stresses of composite coatings composed of Ti-Al-Si intermetallic compounds. In this regard, surface coating of pure Ti was carried out using one and two passes of tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding with an Al filler alloy (grade 4043). Phase and structural evaluat...
The effects of C and N on the work-hardening behaviors were compared in metastable austenitic steels which varied amounts separately added (Fe-18%Cr-8%Ni-(C,N) alloys). Although both suppressed deformation-induced martensitic transformation during tensile deformation due to their austenite-stabilizing effect, they enhanced work hardening steels. Comparison C-added N-added revealed that addition...
In this study, thin layers of titanium nitride (TiN) were deposited on H13 steel substrates at different duty cycles and temperature of 520 ˚C using plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD). Uniaxial residual stress was calculated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Sin2 Ψ method. Then the residual stress of the samples were measured by Grazing Incidence X-ray Diffraction (GIXRD) method and...
Two kinds of austenite grow from d-ferrite during the cooling of the duplex stainless steel weld deposits studied here, Widmanstätten plates and allotriomorphs which precipitate at d–d grain boundaries. It is found using microtexture measurements that the preferred crystallographic orientation of the Widmanstätten austenite can be estimated using established theory if it is assumed that there i...
Nano/submicron austenitic stainless steels have attracted increasing attention over the past few years due to fine structural control for tailoring engineering properties. At the nano/submicron grain scales, grain boundary strengthening can be significant, while ductility remains attractive. To achieve a nano/ submicron grain size, metastable austenitic stainless steels are heavily cold-worked,...
Besides permitting an accurate determination of the ferromagnetic-to-paramagnetic phase transition temperature and the characteristic temperatures for the beginning and end of the growth of martensite (austenite) phase at the expense of austenite (martensite) phase while cooling (heating), the results of an extensive ac susceptibility, sound velocity and internal friction investigation of the t...
The tempering of two–phase mixtures of bainitic ferrite and carbon–enriched retained austenite has been investigated in an effort to separate the reactions that occur at elevated temperatures from any transformation during cooling to ambient conditions. It is demonstrated using synchrotron X–radiation measurements, that the residue of austenite left at the tempering temperature partly decompose...
