The presence of antibodies to Brucella outer membrane lipoprotein was investigated in cattle and rams. Low but significant amounts of antibody were detected in sera from B. abortus-infected cattle and from B. ovis-infected rams which had developed epididymitis. Strain-19-vaccinated cattle also showed a weak albeit transient antibody response.

The aim of the present study is to induce the sexual activity and to attain ejaculation during non-mating season in aboriginal ram breeds bred in Bulgaria. The possibility is discussed to use these rams with regard to the selection activity in effective sexual way. KEY WORD: Aborigine rams breeds, sexual activity and reflexes, semen

Observed and modeled rainfall occurrence from shallow (warm) maritime clouds and their composite statistical relationships with cloud macrophysical properties are analyzed and directly compared. Rain falls from;25%of warm, single-layered, maritime clouds observed byCloudSat and from;27%of the analogous warm clouds simulated within a large-domain, fine-resolution radiative–convective equilibrium...

Cell array faults in random-access memories (RAMs) are usually represented by Mealy automata. In such a model, multiple faults should also be representable by automata; in fact, it should be possible to compute the automaton representing a multiple fault from the automata representing the single faults that make up the multiple fault. In this paper we study properties of binary composition oper...

The role and origin of alveolar macrophages (AMs) in asthma are incompletely defined. We sought to clarify these issues in the context of acute allergic lung inflammation using house dust mite and OVA murine models. Use of liposomal clodronate to deplete resident AMs (rAMs) resulted in increased levels of inflammatory cytokines and eosinophil numbers in lavage fluid and augmented the histopatho...

The objective was to compare the relative response between rams and bulls in characteristics of LH, FSH and testosterone (T) secretion, during and after long-term treatment with GnRH analogs. Animals were treated with GnRH agonist, GnRH antagonist, or vehicle (Control) for 28 days. Serial blood samples were collected on day 21 of treatment, and at several intervals after treatment. Injections o...

Two groups of purebred ewes (A and B), each consisting of 25 Dorsets and 25 Hampshires, were used to study effects of ewe breed and ram exposure on ovulation and estrus in May and June. Ewes lambed in January and February and were isolated from mature rams for at least 5 mo. From May 8 to June 11 (Period 1), Group A ewes were penned with vasectomized rams fitted with marking harnesses and Group...

To study the effect of nutrition on spring testicular growth, four adult Corriedale rams were allowed to graze enough to maintain weight (maintenance group), while another four rams, in addition to forage, received a supplemental grain-based ration (increased gradually from 100 to 400 g during the first 5 d and kept at 400 g thereafter) daily for 63 d (supplemented group). Body weight, scrotal ...

Surfactant protein A (SP-A) enhances phagocytosis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Two functional genes, SP-A1 and SP-A2, encode human SP-A. As we showed before, baculovirus-mediated insect cell-expressed SP-A2 enhances the association of P. aeruginosa with rat alveolar macrophages (rAMs) more than does SP-A1. However, true phagocytosis (internalization) was not shown, and insect cell derived protein...
