A 60-year-old man with missing maxillary molar teeth received dental implant therapy for reconstruction of occlusion. Sinus floor elevation with autogenous bone graft consisting of iliac bone block and particulate cancellous bone and marrow (PCBM) was performed in the bilateral maxillary sinuses for implant placement. On the right side, bone height in the molar region was less than 2mm. Therefo...
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the rate of complications in maxillary sinus augmentation surgery and the impact of complications on subsequent implant treatment in a patient population with severe maxillary atrophy scheduled for treatment under general anesthesia. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study population consisted of 70 patients (124 sinuses) with severe maxillary atrophy who...
The objective of this case report is to introduce a customized CAD/CAM freeze-dried bone allograft (FDBA) block for its use in Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) procedures for severely deficient maxillary bones. Additionally, a special newly developed remote incision technique is presented to avoid wound dehiscence. The results show optimal integration behavior of the FDBA block after six months a...
Cholesterol granuloma in the paranasal sinuses is rare. It is more common in the mastoid antrum and temporal bone air cells in chronic middle ear disease. A case of bilateral maxillary sinus cholesterol granuloma that mimics chronic maxillary sinusitis is reported. This is the first reported case of cholesterol granuloma of the maxillary sinus in the Malaysian Literature.
BACKGROUND Bone preservation is an essential issue in the context of last teeth extraction and complete edentulism. The intended treatment, whether a complete denture or an implant placement, is facilitated with a voluminous residual ridge. Bone resorption after multiple extractions has not been as well studied as the bone resorption that occurs after the extraction of a single tooth. Recent ad...
Bone density and quantity are primary conditions for the insertion and stability of dental implants. In cases of a lack of adequate maxillary or mandibulary bone, e.g. in terms of front to back depth or thickness, bone augmentation will be necessary. Lack of bone or bone defects can be caused by inflammation, congenital malformation, trauma or oncological surgery. Several procedures and materia...

OBJECTIVE The variety of methodologies used to investigate ovariectomized female rats shows different results, which makes a clinical application of these results difficult. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the effect of masticatory effort reduction and of low-calcium diet on maxillary bone turnover of ovariectomized female rats. STUDY DESIGN Eighty-four female rats were divided into ...
