Eddy-current nondestructive evaluation is commonly carried out using single frequency time harmonic excitations, but a pulsed excitation offers a simple and effective alternative. The pulse signals have been calculated for a probe coil whose current rises and falls exponentially, approximating a square wave when the exponential time constant is small. Predictions of the induced electromotive fo...

when structures are subjected to strong ground motion excitations, structural elements may be prone to yielding, and consequently experience significant levels of inelastic behavior. the effects of inelastic behavior on the distribution of peak floor loads are not explicitly accounted for in current seismic code procedures. during recent years, many studies have been conducted to develop new de...

We investigate influence of mobility of neighbouring chains on dynamics of soliton-like excitations in a chain of the simplest polymer crystal (polyethylene in the “united atoms” approximation) using molecular dynamics simulation. We present results for point-like structural defects: static and moving at low, medium and high velocities; and examine how the structure of a crystal will affect them.

Abstract Ultrafast laser inscription (ULI) inside semiconductors offers new perspectives for 3D monolithic structures to be fabricated and functionalities added in electronic photonic microdevices. However, important challenges remain because of nonlinear effects such as strong plasma generation that distort the energy delivery at focal point when exposing these materials intense infrared light...

We theoretically study the real-time dynamics of photoinduced topological phase transition to a nonequilibrium Floquet Chern insulator in an organic conductor $\alpha$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2$I$_3$, which was recently predicted using theory. By tight-binding model $\alpha$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2$I$_3$ that hosts pair tilted Dirac-cone bands at Fermi level, we solve time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation and obtain...

Photocatalytic properties of Ag@TiO2 composite clusters have been investigated using steady state and laser pulse excitations. Photoexcitation of TiO2 shell results in accumulation of the electrons in the Ag core as evidenced from the shift in the surface plasmon band from 460 to 420 nm. The stored electrons are discharged when an electron acceptor such as O2, thionine, or C60 is introduced int...

In this paper, using the Darboux transformation, we demonstrate the generation of first-order breather and higher-order rogue waves from a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation with several higher-order nonlinear effects representing femtosecond pulse propagation through nonlinear silica fiber. The same nonlinear evolution equation can also describe the soliton-type nonlinear excitations i...

We describe direct measurements at a high temporal resolution of the changes experienced by the phase and amplitude of an ultra-short pulse upon propagation through an inhomogenously broadened semiconductor nanostructured optical gain medium. Using a cross frequency-resolved optical gating technique, we analyze 150 fs-wide pulses propagating along an InP based quantum dash optical amplifier in ...

We study vibrational excitations, dissociation, and ionization of H(2)(+) in few-cycle laser pulses over a broad wavelength regime. Our results of numerical simulations supported by model calculations show a many orders-of-magnitude enhancement of vibrational excitation and dissociation (over ionization) of the molecular ion at infrared wavelengths. The enhancement occurs without any chirping o...

Electret Model, Biological System It is suggested that several basic properties of biological systems, such as muscular motions, active transport of energy, etc., may be described in terms of a dynamical model possessing metastable ferroelectric states. The model is based on the observation that configurationally unstable anions, in particular O 2 , can lead to ferroelectric phase transitions. ...
