We report a case of a posterior fossa arteriovenous fistula (AVF) with bithalamic hyperintensity of MR images. The thalamic abnormality improved after surgery, suggesting reversible venous hypertension as the pathogenesis of the finding, as opposed to infarction. This manifestation of a posterior fossa AVF should be considered in the differential diagnosis of bilateral thalamic disease.
We report an unusual case of an extraaxial ependymoma of the posterior fossa in an adult. MR imaging showed a heterogeneously enhancing extraaxial mass with a cystic component. Ependymoma should be included in the differential diagnosis of uncommon extraaxial masses of the posterior fossa.
The embolization of missiles to the intracranial circulation is a rare event. We describe here a case of a man shot by a shotgun, presenting with a posterior fossa stroke and occlusion of the superior cerebellar artery by a metallic pellet. To our knowledge, this is the third case of posterior fossa circulation pellet emboli.
A peculiar abnormality of the precentral cerebellar vein seen only in cystic astrocytoma of the vermis is reported. Implications of this angiographic finding are discussed. The importance of posterior fossa angiography (especially venography) in the diagnosis of posterior fossa mass lesions is emphasized.
Computerised axial tomography (CAT) has profoundly altered the management of most children with posterior fossa tumours. Fifty such children were operated on from October 1973 to December 1975, 20 of whom were explored after investigation by CAT only. Most recent experience suggests that CAT need by the only investigation in the majority of children suspected of having an expanding lesion in th...
Torticollis is an usual symptom that can be the result of various disorders, such as sternocleidomastoid muscle pathology, bony abnormalities of the cervical spine, disorders of the central or peripheral nervous system, various ocular diseases, and brain tumors, especially in children. A 12-month-old male visited our hospital because of torticollis. He was normal on systemic examination, with n...
Received: 31 Dec, 2008 Accepted: 22 July, 2009 Abstract The sciatic nerve, posterior cutaneus nerve of thigh, and inferior gluteal nerve are branches of sacral plexus. They leave the pelvis via greater sciatic foramen and arises in gluteal region in infra piriformis fossa. The sciatic nerve usually divides at the upper angle of the popliteal fossa to common peroneal and tibial nerves. The...
BACKGROUND Posterior fossa syndrome (PFS) is defined as the temporary and complete loss of speech after posterior fossa surgery. The goal of this study was to identify incidence and risk factors for PFS and to determine accompanying neurobehavioral and psychologic problems. PROCEDURE Between May 2007 and April 2009, children with brain tumors having posterior fossa surgery were evaluated neur...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Passing from the supine to the upright position favors cerebral venous outflow into vertebral venous systems rather than into the internal jugular veins. We sought to determine venous connections between dural venous sinuses of the posterior cranial fossa and craniocervical vertebral venous systems. METHODS Corrosion casts of the cranial and cervical venous system were ...
