A bifunctional peptide containing a domain that targets cell nuclei and a domain with the ability to biomineralize and capture Au clusters is presented. The peptide-Au clusters exhibit red emission (λ(em) = 677 nm) and specifically stain the nuclei of three cell lines.

OBJECTIVE Tooth whitening using hydrogen peroxide is a complex process, and there is still some controversy about the roles of pH, temperature, chemical activators, and the use of light irradiation. In this work the basic interactions between whitening agents and stain molecules are studied in simple solutions, thus avoiding the physics of diffusion and light penetration in the tooth to give cl...

Sections of hyalinized laryngeal polyps stained with haematoxylin and eosin or Congo red can easily be confused with localized amyloid of the larynx. Several histological methods were applied to 61 specimens containing hyaline deposits or hyalinized tissues which included 36 laryngeal polyps. The results were compared with seven cases of localized amyloidosis of the upper respiratory tract and ...

Eosinophils are one of the polymorphonuclear granulocytes derived from bone marrow stem cells, and they contain many small cytoplasmic granules that stain bright red with eosin or brick-red with Romanowsky staining. Eosinophilic infiltration is also present in various human central nervous system (CNS) diseases such as parasitic infection, transverse myelitis, vasculitis, Langerhans cell histio...

In the past, there has been an emphasis on conifer tree species in forestry operations in British Columbia. As a result, there is a serious lack of information regarding disease and decay problems in most hardwood tree species. This presentation reports the results of recent studies on levels of decay in natural red alder stands, and on the formation of stain in harvested alder logs. Disease pr...

Round holes in the ears of MRL mice tend to close with characteristics of regeneration believed to be absent in other mouse strains (e.g., C57BL/6). We evaluated the kinetics and the histopathology of ear wound closure in young (8 weeks old) C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice. We also used middle-aged (40 weeks old) C57BL/6 mice to evaluate the influence of aging on this process. A circular through-and-th...

Figure S1. Internalization of Sn induced by Sn-specific mAbs. Newly developed mAbs 12A4 and SySy94 were added to the cells for 60 min at 4 °C to allow only surface staining. Cells were then fixed (0 min) or were brought to 37 °C to induce internalization (60 min). Cells were permeabilized so internalized vesicles could be observed. Secondary Alexa Fluor 488-labeled antibodies were added to the ...

What a useful tool the vascular anomalies classification described by Wassef et al would have been during my medical training! As a pediatric resident in the 1980s, I was frequently perplexed by the many red “birth marks” I was confronted with while performing newborn and well-child examinations. Despite a reassuring nod from attendings, who offered terms like “port wine stain” and “strawberry ...

BACKGROUND Little is known about the relationship between splenic arteriolar hyaline and cause of death. The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinicopathological significance of splenic arteriolar hyaline in autopsy cases and estimate the applicability of hyaline for diagnosing the cause and rapidity of death. METHODS Archival data and histological slides from 82 cases ...

BACKGROUND Dermal wound healing involves a cascade of complex events including angiogenesis and extracellular matrix remodeling. Several groups have focused in the study of the skin wound healing activity of natural products. The phytomedicine Acheflan®, and its main active constituent is the oil from Cordia verbenacea which has known anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antimicrobial activities. T...
