The photodegradation properties of six electro-optic chromophores in guest-host polymer formats were measured as a function of wavelength throughout the visible and up to 1.3 ␮m in the near infrared. The chromophore structure was varied to provide insight into its relationship with photostability.

The fluorescence and amplified spontaneous emission characteristics of rhodamine 6G impregnated in polyacrylamide is reported in this chapter. Using amplified spontaneous emission gain radiative and related properties of this dye doped matrix was measured. It was found that photostability of rhodamine 6G is unusually high in this matrix compared to other polymer hosts like polyrnethylmethacrylate.

Supramolecular aggregates of hexaphenylbenzene derivative exhibit aggregation induced emission enhancement and modulation of self-assembled architecture from spherical to flower-like assembly in the presence of H2S. Furthermore, probe displays higher photostability, low toxicity and bright green fluorescence in two-photon microscopy (TPM) imaging for the detection of H2S in live HeLa cells.

Coordination polymers PZn quantum dots with a uniform diameter of 3 ± 0.5 nm were successfully prepared. The PZn QDs exhibit excellent water dispersibility, high photoluminescence, outstanding photostability and remarkable biocompatibility. The results of cellular experiments show that the PZn QDs are highly suitable for long-term cell imaging.

A novel star-shaped chromophore, Tr-PBI, was constructed by fusing three perylenebisimide branches and a truxene core. Tr-PBI exhibits high photostability and excellent two-photon properties: the maximum of δ(TPA) is 11,000 GM at 990 nm and fluorescence quantum efficiency Φ is 0.40 in THF.

A new RNA-selective fluorescent dye integrated with a thiazole orange and a p-(methylthio)styryl moiety shows better nucleolus RNA staining and imaging performance in live cells than the commercial stains. It also exhibits excellent photostability, cell tolerance, and counterstain compatibility with 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole for specific RNA-DNA colocalization in bioassays.
