We evaluated the artus RealArt Parvovirus B19 LC PCR reagent (artus biotech USA, San Francisco, Calif.) for real-time PCR detection of parvovirus B19 DNA by retesting 71 specimens previously submitted to our laboratory. The artus assay, which produces a quantitative result and provides an internal PCR control, appeared to be slightly more sensitive than our conventional qualitative PCR assay.
Little information is available on the immune response to parvovirus B19 after the administration of contaminated blood products. In the present study, we found that levels of B19 IgG in B19-seropositive recipients protect against reinfection and, after transfusion with pooled plasma containing B19 DNA (1.6 x 10(8) IU/mL), increase from 19-39 IU/mL to 50-100 IU/mL. We found that, in the presenc...
BACKGROUND Infections caused by canine parvovirus, canine distemper virus and canine coronavirus are an important cause of mortality and morbidity in dogs worldwide. Prior to this study, no information was available concerning the incidence and prevalence of these viruses in Cape Verde archipelago. RESULTS To provide information regarding the health status of the canine population in Vila do ...
There are only a few reports of fetal parvovirus infection in the circumstance of a twin pregnancy. We report a case of differential fetal infection following maternal parvovirus B19 infection in a dichorionic twin pregnancy culminating in a dual live-birth. A 32-year-old woman was diagnosed with parvovirus infection following exposure to her infected child at 19 weeks' gestation in a dichorion...
background and aims: human parvovirus b19, a member of the parvoviridae family, with single-stranded dna is a very minute non-enveloped virus. b 19 virus is mostly transmitted via the respiratory tract but some studies have been reported which b19 virus can be transmitted through blood and/or blood products. the aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of b19 among blood donors in tehra...
human parvovirus b19, the causative agent of fifth disease in childhood, is non-enveloped dna virus and resistant to many physicochemical agents. b19 is a potential risk to hemophiliac patients receiving blood products. to determine the prevalence of the corresponding antibody in patients with hemophilia a or b or von will brand’s disease (vwbd), we tested 180 hemophilia patients aged 1-45 year...
BACKGROUND Multiple viruses have been isolated from the heart, but their significance remains controversial. We sought to determine the prevalence of cardiotropic viruses in endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) samples from adult patients with heart failure (HF) and to define the clinicopathologic profile of patients exhibiting viral positivity. METHODS AND RESULTS EMB from 100 patients (median ejecti...
background: parvovirus b19 (b19) is the only member of the family parvoviridae associated with human infection. although there are some studies to estimate the immunity to parvovirus in various populations but there is no seroepidemiological survey from iran until now thus the age-specific immunity to human parvovirus infection was estimated. methods: a subset sample of 1500 study subjects...
background and objectives: trans-placental transmission of parvovirus b19 during pregnancy can causes adverse outcomes. regarding its importance in prenatal care, we decided to study prevalence of parvovirus b19 infection among pregnant woman in ardabil, iran. materials and methods: in a community based study with a cluster sampling, 350 pregnant women that attended in health care centers in ar...
