A real-time, continuous optical particle separation method, termed cross-type optical particle separation, is investigated theoretically and experimentally. The trajectory of a particle subject to cross-type optical particle separation is predicted by solving the particle dynamic equation and compared with experimental data. For various flow velocities and particle sizes, the retention distance...
Introduction: Sieving was used extensively until 1999 to determine the particle size distribution of lunar samples. This method is time-consuming, and requires more than a gram of material in order to obtain a result in which one may have confidence. This is demonstrated by the difference in geometric mean and median for samples measured by [1], in which a 14-gram sample produced a geometric me...
this study was conducted to evaluate the effects of alfalfa hay (ah) particle size and soybean hull (sh) on physical effective fibre (pendf), particle size distribution in diets, chewing activity as well as milk composition and production in early lactating dairy cows. eight lactating holstein cows averaging 590±33 kg of bw and 47±13 days in milk were assigned in a 4×4 latin square design to a ...
This paper focuses on the particle size distribution (PSD) changes during nixtamalized corn kernels (NCK) as a function of the steeping time (ST). The process to obtain powder or corn flour from NCK was as follows: (i) the NCK with different STs were wet-milled in a stone mill, (ii) dehydrated by a Flash type dryer, and (iii) pulverized with a hammer mill and sieved with a 20 mesh. The powder w...
A determination of the aerosol particle size distribution function by using the particle spectrum extinction equation is an ill-posed integral equation of the first kind. To overcome this, we must incorporate regularization techniques. Most of the literature focuses on the Phillips-Twomey regularization or its variations. However, there are drawbacks for some applications in which the real aero...

The finite-size effect on the evolution of the Griffiths phase (GP) is studied using nanoparticles of half-doped manganite Pr0.5Sr0.5MnO3 with different average particle sizes but with similar structural parameters. All the samples exhibit pronounced GP behavior. With reducing the particle size, the Griffiths temperature remains almost unchanged but the characteristic critical temperature [Form...
Fluorescence-intensity enhancement of dye molecules was investigated using silicon submicron particles as a function of the particle size. Silicon particles with a size of 500 nm gave an enhancement factor up to 180. Measurement of scattering spectra revealed that the localized electric field at the particle enhances the fluorescence intensity.
The physical nature of particles, such as size, shape, and composition govern their angular light scattering, which is described by the volume scattering function (VSF). Despite the fact that the VSF is one of the most important inherent optical properties, it has rarely been measured in aquatic environments since no commercial instrument exists to measure the full VSF in the field. The commonl...
Many studies report that, under some circumstances, amending soil with biochar can improve field capacity and plant-available water. However, little is known about the mechanisms that control these improvements, making it challenging to predict when biochar will improve soil water properties. To develop a conceptual model explaining biochar's effects on soil hydrologic processes, we conducted a...
