The bioactivity of natural, long-chain ceramides has until now been studied after its delivery to cells in organic solvent mixtures containing dodecane. We have synthesized ceramides conjugated to a (6-bromo-7-hydroxycoumarin-4-yl)methyl group. The photocaged ceramide is efficiently released with 350 nm light in aqueous solution at neutral pH, thus providing a promising new tool to study cerami...

The enantioselective synthesis of (2S)-2-phenylpropanol and (2S)-2-(4-iso-butylphenyl)propanol ((S)-Ibuprofenol) has been achieved by means of Horse Liver Alcohol Dehydrogenase (HLADH) in buffered aqueous solution or buffered organic solvent mixtures; under the reaction conditions, a dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) process was realized with good reaction yields and enantiomeric ratios.

An organic salt based on double 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives as fluorophores and BAPTA as a receptor has been designed for detection of Cd(2+). The fluorescent probe exhibits high selectivity for Cd(2+) and a low detection limit of 20 nM in aqueous solution, making it useful for Cd(2+) imaging in living MCF-7 cells.

Metal-organic framework NU-1000 selectively adsorbs furanics, while completely excluding the adsorption of monomeric sugars from the same aqueous mixture. The highly refined degree of molecular recognition exhibited by NU-1000 is exemplified with it selectively adsorbing 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, even in the presence of up to a 300-fold excess of glucose in solution.

the energy minima of systems made of an alanine molecule, a lithium cation and a various number of watermolecules have been determined with the help of quantum mechanical computations at the b3lyp densityfunctional theory level of computation and the standard 6-311++g (d,p) basis set. several structures, close inenergy are found and the presence of one or two water molecules around the cation m...

background and purpose: highly consumption of antibiotics and their entrance into the environment has increased concerns all over the world. these compounds enter to the environment through an incomplete metabolism and a considerable amount of them cannot be removed using usual waste filtration systems. therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using ultraviolet radia...

In this study, an attempt was made to improve the packing density of calcium phosphate (CaP) coating on a magnesium alloy by tailoring the coating solution for enhanced degradation resistance of the alloy for implant applications. An organic solvent, ethanol, was added to the coating solution to decrease the conductivity of the coating solution so that hydrogen bubble formation/bursting reduces...

In order to determine factors that facilitate the use of primary amines in biological chemistry, solvent effects on enamine formation with glycine were studied. Solvent effects were rapidly analyzed by monitoring the increase in fluorescence resulting from the reaction between a fluorogenic maleimide and in situ-generated enamine of acetone. These studies suggest that in addition to a simple hy...

Graphene, a new member of the carbon family, was used as an adsorbent due to its exceptional capability to remove Rhodamine B (RB) and Malachite Green (MG), two organic dyes, from aqueous solutions. Adsorption kinetics of RB and MG onto graphene and adsorption capacity of the adsorbent were studied. Also the effects of parameters, including pH, contact time, temperature, and adsorbent dosag...
