The transfer function for optical wavefront aberrations in single-mode fiber based optical coherence tomography is determined. The loss in measured OCT signal due to optical wavefront aberrations is quantified using Fresnel propagation and the calculation of overlap integrals. A distinction is made between a model for a mirror and a scattering medium model. The model predictions are validated w...

209 Vitreoretinal surgery has experienced an explosion of advances in the last decade and a half. New advances in pars plana vitrectomy systems including small‐gauge instrumentation have provided many potential benefits to patients and surgeons. These include more efficient surgery; decreased postoperative inflammation leading to less pain and more patient comfort; improved cosmetic appearance ...

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a new imaging technique capable of obtaining high-resolution intravascular images and has been used in interventional cardiology. However, an application of OCT in pulmonary arteries had seldom been documented. In this case, OCT imaging is performed in peripheral pulmonary arteries and shows mural red thrombi. Subsequently, the red thrombi are aspirated and...

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an optical signal acquisition and processing method that captures micrometer-resolution three-dimensional images from within biological tissues. In recent years, OCT has become an important imaging technology used in diagnosing and following macular pathologies. It has complemented fluorescein angiography in many cases, especially in the diagnosis and manag...

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has established itself as the dominant imaging modality in the management of glaucoma and retinal diseases, providing high-resolution visualization of ocular microstructures and objective quantification of tissue thickness and change. This article reviews the history of OCT imaging with a specific focus on glaucoma. We examine the clinical utility of OCT with ...

The spectroscopic content within optical coherence tomography (OCT) data can provide a wealth of information. Spectroscopic OCT methods are frequently limited by time-frequency trade-offs that limit high spectral and spatial resolution simultaneously. We present spectroscopic spectral-domain optical coherence microscopy performed with a multimodality microscope. Restricting the spatial extent o...

Speckle is an intrinsic feature of images acquired with any imaging system employing coherent wavefields. It manifests itself as a rapid fluctuation of the detected intensity (or field envelope) over the spatial extent of the image, conveying a granular texture. In optical coherence tomography (OCT), it is generated by the ‘coherent’ summation (i.e. on a complex amplitude basis) of multiple opt...

We extend the applicability of inverse scattering for optical coherence tomography (OCT) to the case of high numerical aperture focusing optics. We include the effects of tight focusing so that the approach is applicable to any interferometric microscopy method. The applicability to modalities, such as OCT and optical coherence microscopy, enables computed reconstruction of three-dimensional vo...

The purpose of this study is to present a non invasive method for the marginal adaptation evaluation in class V composite restorations. Standardized class V cavities, prepared in human extracted teeth, were filled with Premise (Kerr) composite. The specimens were thermo cycled. The interfaces were examined by Optical Coherence Tomography method (OCT) combined with the confocal microscopy and fl...
