In this article, the ecological condition of soil, its contamination by various factors, and methods preparation for land reclamation activities in drought-affected soil areas are studied. Additional remedial measures such as contamination, agrotechnical measures, use oil-degrading bacterial strains, planting plants renewable options were considered.
Objective: We report an outbreak of epidemic dropsy following ingestion of cooking groundnut-oil adulterated with Argemone oil. Methods: We describe 40 patients (18 families) from three towns in Gujarat in 1998, affected with epidemic dropsy during an outbreak and its control measures. They were successfully treated with supportive measures and antioxidants. The outbreak control measures used w...
Oil and natural gas production is often accompanied by large amounts of wastewater [1]. The volumetric ratio of water-to-oil will increase over the lifetime of an operation and can eventually exceed 90%. Water is also associated with some, but not all, gas production. For instance, dry sources of gas are found in Alberta, Canada. Produced water is often reinjected into the well to increase oil ...
Persian Gulf and its coastal areas are the world's largest source of crude oil and related industries govern the region. One of the contaminants in this area is heavy metals associated with oil spill. More importantly, vanadium, nickel and zinc can be named in this regard. In this study, the contamination of northern coasts of Persian Gulf is selected to investigate for trace metals of V, Ni, C...
Wearable sweat biosensensing technology has dominantly relied on techniques which place planar-sensors or fluid-capture materials directly onto the skin surface. This 'on-skin' approach can result in sample volumes in the μL regime, due to the roughness of skin and/or due to the presence of hair. Not only does this increase the required sampling time to 10's of minutes or more, but it also incr...
The impacts of diffuse urban sources of pollution on watercourses are quantified. A survey of nine urban streams in Scotland for persistent pollutants in stream sediments is described, together with sediments from SUDS ponds. Determinands reported are: PAHs, total hydrocarbons, and toxic metals (As, Zn, Ni, Pb, Cu, Cr, Cd). Results highlight hydrocarbons as a major urban pollutant, and show sig...
Changes in the microbial community in response to catastrophic oil spills in marine and fresh water environments have been well documented. Molecular methods provide tools for analyzing the entire bacterial community, covering also those bacteria that have not been cultured in the laboratory. In this study, four different microcosms were set up containing sediments collected from the Persian Gu...

T he extraction and processing of Canada’s massive oil sands in the Athabasca region of northern Alberta have been marked by an ongoing controversy about the nature and extent of associated environmental impacts. Impacts include habitat destruction and fragmentation by surface mining and tailings disposal, depletion of water resources, greenhouse gas and chemical emissions, and the impacts of e...
